Florida Deputy Fired for Stalking Woman Using Police Databases After TV Set Encounter
Florida Deputy Fired for Stalking Woman Using Police Databases

A Florida Keys sheriff's deputy has been dismissed and arrested after investigators allege he misused confidential law enforcement databases to stalk and pull over a woman he initially encountered while working security on a television set. Deputy Lamar Eliseo Roman, aged 28, faces charges of accessing a computer or electronic device without authority following an incident that has raised serious concerns about police conduct and data privacy.

Unauthorized Database Access and Dangerous Traffic Stop

According to a warrant obtained by Local 10 News from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Roman improperly accessed Florida's Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) and the Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center databases. He used these systems to locate a woman he met on the set of the Apple TV series "Bad Monkey," which stars Vince Vaughn and is based on a novel by South Florida author Carl Hiaasen.

Investigators report that Roman then initiated an unauthorized traffic stop on U.S. 1 on February 19. Dashcam footage reviewed by authorities allegedly shows Roman accelerating to approximately 70 mph in a no-passing zone, overtaking two dump trucks and an SUV in a maneuver that nearly caused a head-on collision. A white truck traveling northbound was forced to veer off the roadway to avoid a crash.

From TV Set Encounter to Police Investigation

The chain of events began on February 3 when Roman noticed the woman disembarking from an extras bus on the "Bad Monkey" set. According to the investigative report, Roman began whistling and catcalling her, loudly exclaiming, "Oh my god, why didn't nobody tell me we were bringing models to (the) set." Despite learning the woman had a boyfriend, Roman continued flirting and joking with her before they exchanged names and cellphone numbers.

Roman allegedly told the woman, "I need your name and number just in case I pull you over someday." He subsequently entered her license plate into a "hotlist" system that alerts officers when a vehicle is detected by license plate readers. When the system pinged her plate on February 19, Roman pursued her vehicle and conducted the traffic stop near Bobalu's Southern Café on Big Coppitt Key.

Confrontation During Traffic Stop

During the stop, which was never logged in official records, Roman's in-car camera captured video but no audio because he wasn't wearing his microphone. The woman later told investigators the encounter made her "uncomfortable" due to Roman's comments, including, "Oh, I thought you had a boyfriend." She questioned how he knew it was her vehicle, to which Roman allegedly responded, "I told you I'd find you and pull you over."

Roman also asked why she hadn't followed him back on Instagram and stated, "And I was hoping your boyfriend was in the car so I can pull him out and give him a hard time." In a March 4 interview with investigators, Roman claimed he only intended to say "hi" and "got you" during the stop, describing it as lighthearted interaction.

Investigation and Aftermath

Roman, who had been with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office since May 2025, was fired following the investigation. Although the woman indicated she did not wish to pursue criminal charges, the sheriff's office proceeded with the case. Roman was arrested on Tuesday and is scheduled for arraignment in a Florida Keys courtroom on March 26.

In a statement following the arrest, Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay emphasized his commitment to transparency, stating he was "committed to keeping this community informed of significant events that occur in this agency — good and bad." Roman later admitted to improperly searching the databases, telling fellow deputies he wanted to apologize and explaining, "I mean, it's a tough month and I saw a shiny thing and teasing and all that and I knew that when I put that I'm like 'f***,' and that's why I just like I stopped right after and nothing else."
