Grandson Arrested for Brutal Murder of Elderly Grandparents in South Carolina
A 19-year-old man has been charged with the brutal murders of his grandparents, a beloved elderly couple in South Carolina, in a shocking case that has left their family and community reeling with grief and disbelief.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Levi Kevin Jones was arrested late on Friday evening on two counts of murder following the deaths of his grandparents, 76-year-old Larry Moore and 75-year-old Sandra Moore. The bodies of the elderly pair were discovered on January 15 after a concerned family member made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact them.
According to a press release from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, officials determined that the couple's deaths were the result of a homicide. Larry Moore was found with multiple stab wounds to his torso and neck, while Sandra Moore had been strangled. In addition to the murder charges, Jones has also been charged with two counts of Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime.
Family and Community in Mourning
The Moore family has expressed profound devastation over the loss. Their son-in-law, Kevin Jones, described the couple as "the most precious people God ever created" in a heartfelt Facebook post. He wrote, "Why anyone would hurt these two precious people is beyond imagination. Absolutely heartbroken."
Larry and Sandra Moore were well-known and respected longtime residents of the area. They were the former owners of Moore & Moore Fish Camp, a business they ran before retiring in 2016. Larry was remembered as an avid fisherman who cherished sharing stories of fishing trips with his father and brother from his youth.
Kevin Jones further reflected on their kindness, stating, "He and Sandra always treated me like I really mattered, as though I had always been part of the family. He made such a huge impact on my life and showed me true love, Christ-like love."
Outpouring of Grief from the Community
The couple were active and faithful members of the Calvary Church, which posted on Facebook expressing "heavy hearts" at their passing. The church described them as "longtime and most faithful members" and called for prayers for the family during this difficult time.
Other community members shared their memories and sorrow. Stacy Brooks, a fellow churchgoer, noted, "They were always there. You expected to see them every time you went. They were faithful people. This is a close community, and something like this just doesn’t happen often."
Friends and acquaintances described the Moores as "the salt of the earth" and "great mentors." One friend commented on social media, "I'm at a loss for words. They were always so good to me and I have never forgotten that and never will. Truly a devastating loss."
A former business partner of Larry's added, "I represented Larry for years and years and years. He, his wife and mother were not only clients, but friends. I am very much distressed to learn of this tragic event."
Legal Proceedings Underway
Following his arrest, Levi Kevin Jones appeared in magistrate court on Saturday, where his bond was denied. He is scheduled to next appear in court on March 12, as the legal process begins to unfold in this harrowing case.
The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to this tragic loss, which has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved Larry and Sandra Moore.
