West Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of a young woman, believed to be a teenager, who was found unconscious on a street in Leeds. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, prompting a swift response from authorities.
Discovery and Immediate Response
Officers were called to Kennerleigh Avenue in the Austhorpe area of Leeds at 5.55am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, after receiving reports of an unconscious young female. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim with serious injuries. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment but, despite efforts, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
In connection with the incident, police have arrested four individuals from a nearby address on suspicion of murder. The suspects include two women aged 18, a man aged 20, and a boy aged 17. All four remain in police custody as detectives continue their inquiries. A crime scene has been established on Kennerleigh Avenue, with forensic teams working to gather evidence.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Superintendent Marc Bowes stated, "This is an extremely complex investigation where a young woman has sadly lost her life. We are treating her death as murder and have arrested four people in connection with it."
Appeal for Information to Identify Victim
The victim has not yet been identified, and police are actively working to establish her identity. In an effort to assist with this, detectives have released a detailed description of the young woman in the hope that someone will recognise her. She is described as having a slim build, tanned skin, standing approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, and believed to be in her mid to late teens. She has green eyes and brown hair with darker roots and blonder ends. Additionally, she has fixed metal braces on both her upper and lower teeth.
Detective Chief Superintendent Bowes added, "Despite carrying out extensive inquiries throughout the course of today we have not yet been able to confirm her identity. We hope by releasing these details that someone will recognise who she is and come forward."
Public Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities are also appealing to the public for any information that could aid the investigation. They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the Kennerleigh Avenue area during the early hours of Saturday morning or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity. Detective Chief Superintendent Bowes emphasised, "I am also keen to speak to anyone who was in the Kennerleigh Avenue area in the early hours of this morning, or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity."
