Drunk Duo Push Man onto Live Railway Tracks in Birmingham Station Horror
In a terrifying incident at one of Britain's busiest transport hubs, two intoxicated women shoved a man onto live train tracks and brutally assaulted his girlfriend, leaving both victims with significant physical injuries and profound psychological trauma. The attack occurred at Birmingham New Street Station on April 11 last year, with the perpetrators subsequently appearing before Birmingham Magistrates' Court where they admitted their crimes.
Sustained and Unprovoked Platform Assault
The court heard how Morgan Cox and Ellouise Parke, both 23 years old, approached the couple on a platform at approximately 9:30pm and asked for a sip of the woman's drink. According to prosecutor Owen Beale, the defendants "entirely consumed" the beverage instead of taking a sip, sparking an immediate confrontation. When the victims attempted to walk away from the escalating situation, the intoxicated pair pursued them aggressively.
"The defendants ran up behind and attacked (the woman) by the escalator," Mr Beale stated. "The two of them punched and kicked her. She had a bloodied nose and broken teeth." The violence then turned toward her partner in what District Judge Michelle Smith would later describe as "one of the most serious ABHs (Actual Bodily Harm) this court will have seen."
Man Pushed onto Live Railway Tracks
The attack escalated dramatically when the women turned their attention to the male victim. "He was pushed off the platform onto the railway which was live," the prosecutor revealed. "Fortunately, he managed to make his way back onto the platform without injury." The shocking act placed the man in immediate danger of electrocution or being struck by an approaching train.
Staff eventually intervened to stop the sustained assault, but not before both victims suffered significant harm. The man sustained a gash to his head, multiple bruises, and a cut to his lower back. He later stated he could have died during the incident, which has left him nervous at train stations and "scared to go near the platform."
Lasting Physical and Psychological Damage
The female victim's injuries have proven particularly debilitating. Her broken teeth have caused ongoing complications, with the woman telling the court: "I can no longer smile. It has deeply affected my self-esteem and confidence. I now cover my mouth when I speak out of shame and embarrassment."
Both victims continue to experience emotional distress and flashbacks, especially when passing through the location of the assault. The psychological impact has been severe and persistent, with the woman adding: "I continue to struggle emotionally and suffer flashbacks, particularly when I pass through the location of the assault."
Sentencing and Rehabilitation Focus
Despite the severity of the attack, District Judge Smith ultimately spared Cox and Parker immediate jail time. Both women, who have no previous convictions, received 12-month suspended prison sentences suspended for 18 months, along with 25 days of rehabilitation activity and drug testing requirements. They were also ordered to pay £100 compensation to each victim, totaling £400 between them.
Defense lawyer Shabeer Qureshi argued that his clients were in education and had since curbed their drinking. "This has been a real wake-up call," he stated. "This incident has had a positive effect on both of them to move forward and ensure this doesn't happen again."
Specialized Supervision Orders
Both defendants consented to Intensive Supervision Court (ISC) orders, currently only available to low-level female offenders in Birmingham. These orders require regular meetings with probation services and monthly meetings with a judge at a civil justice centre. Judge Smith noted that while the case was among the most serious the court could handle, she decided to retain jurisdiction rather than sending it to crown court due to the defendants' early guilty pleas, which resulted in a one-third reduction to their punishment.
The judge emphasized the attack's severity while acknowledging rehabilitation prospects: "It was a group attack which was sustained and unprovoked at a train station, causing significant injuries and long-lasting impact on your victims." However, she concluded that the "prospect of rehabilitation" was high given the defendants' lack of criminal history and their steps to address the alcohol issues that contributed to the incident.
