Police have launched a full-scale murder investigation after an 88-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances at a care home in Lincolnshire. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing deep concern over the tragic event in the typically quiet market town.
Police Response and Arrests
Lincolnshire Police were called to Sleaford Manor Care Home in the early hours of Sunday morning following reports of a woman's death. Following a post-mortem examination, authorities confirmed the launch of a murder inquiry into the case. Two individuals, a 74-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman, were initially arrested in connection with the death but have since been released without charge as the investigation continues.
Community Reaction and Support
Local residents have voiced their alarm following the incident, with one neighbour describing it as "quite concerning" to have such an event occur so close to home. Another resident, a woman in her 60s who wished to remain anonymous, told local media: "You've got the old person home there and the community centre being built there, so it's not something you would expect to have happen in your neighbourhood."
Detective Inspector Mel Rooke addressed public concerns in an official statement: "I understand any unexpected death is a concern to our communities and this tragic death will be no different. I can say there is no wider risk to the public."
Care Home Operator's Response
A spokesperson for Care UK, which operates Sleaford Manor Care Home, expressed profound sadness over the incident. "We are deeply saddened by this incident and send our condolences to the resident's family," the spokesperson stated. "The incident is now part of an active police investigation so it would be wrong for us to comment any further at this time. We will be cooperating with the investigation in any way we can."
Ongoing Investigation
Police have emphasised that their inquiries will take considerable time to complete and have requested that the family of the deceased and the care home staff be allowed privacy during this difficult period. Specially trained officers are providing support to the victim's family as the investigation progresses.
Detective Inspector Rooke added: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim. Our specially trained officers will be providing support to her family as our inquiry continues." The investigation remains active with police continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses at the scene.
