Paedophile Detective Shielded by Freemasonry, Victim Says

Exclusive: Paedophile Detective Allegedly Protected by Freemason Network

A corrupt Metropolitan Police detective who sexually abused his foster daughter from childhood was shielded from justice because of his Freemasonry connections, his victim has exclusively revealed. Former detective sergeant John Hudson, who died in 2008, systematically abused Marina Narayan from the age of six after fostering her as a baby in 1966 with his wife June.

Systematic Abuse and Institutional Failure

Despite Marina reporting Hudson to police on three separate occasions in 1979, 1999, and 2006, the former vice squad officer was never charged with any offence. Marina, now 60 and a grandmother, has waived her right to anonymity to highlight her concerns about Freemasonry influence within policing after Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley recently mandated officers to declare membership of secret societies.

"All my life I had been branded a liar by police and social services," Marina stated. "I wasn't a liar and I had to clear my name for my own sanity. The protection that being a member of this organisation affords them makes some think they're untouchable."

Freemasonry Connections and Corruption History

Two relatives confirmed Hudson was a Freemason, with one claiming he boasted about being tipped off during investigations by police friends. The case emerged through a long-running investigation by the Shirley Oaks Survivors Association, led by Raymond Stevenson and Lucia Hinton, which has uncovered systemic abuse and cover-ups.

Hudson served in the notorious Obscene Publications Squad, known as the "Porn Squad" or "Dirty Squad," which was at the centre of one of the biggest corruption scandals in Metropolitan Police history. The unit's Freemason head, "Nasty" Bill Moody, was jailed for 12 years in 1977 for corruption, while his superior, Commander Wally Virgo, also a Freemason, was imprisoned for taking bribes from Soho pornographers.

"Under Virgo the Porn Squad was almost entirely Masonic," wrote investigative journalist Martin Short in his book Inside the Brotherhood, though he noted that Freemason officers had also given evidence against corrupt colleagues.

Investigation Revelations and Cover-up Allegations

Raymond Stevenson of SOSA revealed: "One of the family members told us something which shocked us when she said he laughed and said don't worry, I'm being tipped off by my mates." The investigation suggests Hudson was "embedded in the corruption" that plagued the Metropolitan Police during that era.

Marina finally achieved partial justice in 2014 when Hudson's ex-wife June Entecott, then 80, was jailed for four-and-a-half years for perverting the course of justice by lying to protect her former husband. The jury's guilty verdicts established that Hudson had sexually abused both Marina and another girl who cannot be named.

Police Response and Freemasonry Declaration Policy

The Metropolitan Police confirmed last month that 316 officers and staff have declared membership to Freemasonry or hierarchical associations following Sir Mark Rowley's directive. This action came after intelligence indicated earlier this year that three of five detectives arrested for allegedly covering up a sexual assault complaint were Freemasons.

Detective Chief Superintendent Neil Smithson of the Directorate of Professional Standards stated: "We recognise the harm suffered by the victims of former Met officer John Hudson and extend our full sympathies for the trauma they have endured. It is a matter of regret that he wasn't brought to justice while he was alive."

Freemasonry Organisation's Response

The United Grand Lodge of England claimed this week they could find no record of Hudson being a Freemason after reviewing their archives. In a statement, they said: "We are very saddened to hear about the sexual abuse you have described, and we feel for the victim. We can confirm that Bill Moody and Wally Virgo were Freemasons who were brought to justice by fellow Freemasons."

The organisation criticised Sir Mark Rowley's declaration policy as "illegal, discriminatory and unfair" and is seeking a judicial review to block the requirement, arguing there is "nothing secret about Freemasonry."

Broader Pattern of Alleged Protection

This case follows previous revelations about suspected Freemasonry protection for abusers. Last year, SOSA investigators revealed they suspect former Shirley Oaks children's home worker and paedophile Donald Hosegood was protected because he was a Freemason. Hosegood faced trial in 1975 for rape and indecent assault charges that collapsed, and he died in 2011 without facing justice despite further allegations in 1998.

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, which resulted from SOSA's work, found that Hosegood had waved a masonic handbook at arresting officers but received no "direct evidence" of Freemasonry influencing investigations.

Victim's Call for Accountability

Marina praised Sir Mark Rowley's actions while condemning Freemasonry's role: "Mark Rowley has done something that should have been done decades ago, so well done Mark Rowley. In terms of the Freemasons I think shame on you. Shame on you for protecting paedophiles."

She added: "Of course corrupt Freemason police officers should be removed from their positions. There has been a problem with this issue for many years but it's something that's never been addressed. As a result many victims have never received justice."

The Independent Office for Police Conduct upheld misconduct complaints in 2020 regarding failings in the 1979 and 2006 investigations into Hudson's abuse, acknowledging institutional failures in addressing Marina's allegations over decades.
