A young athlete lost his life and three other teenagers sustained injuries in a car crash in Maryland on Friday evening. Ryan Duvall, 18, was a passenger in a vehicle that veered off the road and collided with a tree in Cockeysville, roughly 20 miles north of Baltimore.
Details of the Incident
Baltimore County Police responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at approximately 9:45 PM ET at the intersection of Poplar Hill and Merrymans Mill roads. A preliminary investigation revealed that the car was traveling southbound on Poplar Hill Road when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet determined why the vehicle left the road.
The driver and one passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. A second passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken for medical treatment. Because the driver and the other passengers are minors, their identities have not been disclosed.
Victim Identified
Ryan Duvall was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. His family confirmed his passing and launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses. His sister, Jamie, wrote: 'Our family is devastated by this loss. He was only 18, a son, a beloved uncle, and a light in all of our lives.'
Duvall was a dedicated student at Quest Martial Arts Center, where he had trained for many years. The center posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, stating: 'It absolutely breaks our hearts to have to tell you that one of our long time students and friends, Ryan Duvall, died in a car accident yesterday. He was only 18 years old. Ryan was a 1st Dan Black Belt and was loved and admired by everyone at Quest! He will be sorely missed!!'
Community Mourns
Tributes have poured in from the martial arts community. One person commented: 'Ryan was an outstanding human being. He was quiet, kind, respectful, and just an overall wonderful person.' Another added: 'He was an incredibly talented Hapkido player. He was the kind of person who made you want to be a better person. The world is a lot less bright without him.' A third wrote: 'Ryan was always kind, respectful, and just an all-around wonderful kid. He touched so many lives, and he will be missed by so many.'
The investigation into the crash continues. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
