Two adults have died following an explosion at a house in Bristol on Sunday morning, with police treating the event as suspicious. Avon and Somerset Police declared a major incident after the blast at an address on Sterncourt Road at approximately 6:30 am.
Police Response and Investigation
The force stated that the cause is being treated as suspicious, but they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and do not suspect terrorism. Residents within the cordoned-off area are being evacuated to a temporary rest centre, although there is no significant damage to nearby properties.
Officers are also conducting inquiries at a property in Speedwell, which is believed to be linked to the Sterncourt Road explosion. The police have urged the public not to speculate and to avoid the area while emergency services respond.
Victims and Community Impact
The families of the two deceased individuals have been informed. The College of Policing defines a major incident as "an event or situation with a range of serious consequences which requires special arrangements to be implemented by one or more emergency responder agencies."
