Alan Carr Declares 'Turret Era' as He Hunts for a Castle to Call Home
Alan Carr Enters 'Turret Era' in Castle Hunt

Comedian Alan Carr has humorously declared he is entering his "turret era," as he actively searches for a castle to purchase and make his new home. The Celebrity Traitors winner, speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, admitted this quest stems from a midlife crisis and feelings of loneliness in his current residence.

A Midlife Crisis with a Royal Twist

During the ITV programme, Carr explained his unconventional approach to a midlife crisis. "I’m buying a castle. I’m having a midlife crisis. I want a turret to call my own. I’m in my turret era," he stated. He contrasted his desire with more typical midlife purchases, saying, "You know when people have a midlife crisis that they get a ponytail or a Lamborghini… I want a castle."

Carr, who turns 50 this year, emphasised his determination, adding, "I just want one. You know when you fancy something? I just want one."

Envisioning a Lively Castle Community

The comedian detailed his vision for the castle, which includes creating a vibrant community space. "I want animals there, I want a community thing. I’m lonely where I am. It’ll be nice, having people come there and have a cream tea," he shared. Carr even mentioned plans to reintroduce wolves and have donkeys roaming the grounds, aiming to transform the property into "a big old zoo."

Connection to Celebrity Traitors and New Series

Carr's inspiration partly comes from his experience winning Celebrity Traitors, where he stayed in a castle during filming. He revealed that on a recent holiday in the US, he was recognised by a fan who joked, "I see you Traitor! Who’ve you murdered today?" reflecting the show's impact.

This castle hunt is also tied to his new Disney+ series, Castle Man, which documents his journey to find, purchase, and manage a historic castle. Carr expressed his love for Scotland, hinting it might be a potential location for his future home.

Other Guests on The Jonathan Ross Show

The episode also featured Scream actress Neve Campbell, comedian Rob Beckett and his author wife Lou, and actor Archie Madekwe, with musical performances by Mumford & Sons. Madekwe discussed his role in the 2023 film Gran Turismo, noting he learned to drive at high speeds just before filming, coached by the secret Top Gear Stig.

The Jonathan Ross Show airs at 9.35pm on Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX.
