Cameron Diaz is opening up about the pressures of motherhood in her 50s, joking that she needs to "live to be 107" to keep up with her young children. The actress, who became a mother for the first time at 47, has returned to Hollywood after a decade-long hiatus and is starring alongside Keanu Reeves in the new Apple TV film Outcome.
Hollywood Comeback After 10-Year Break
Last year, Diaz ended her 10-year break from acting, during which she focused on her family life with husband Benji Madden, a rock star from Good Charlotte, and their two children, Raddix (six) and Cardinal (two). Since returning to the screen in the 2025 comedy Back In Action, she has been busy with multiple projects, including a new romcom, another action comedy, and Shrek 5, where she will reprise her role as Princess Fiona.
Her latest project is Outcome, an Apple TV film where she stars alongside Keanu Reeves. The movie follows a fictional actor, played by Reeves, whose nice-guy reputation is threatened by blackmail involving a damaging video.
Motherhood in Her 50s
Diaz has spoken candidly about the joys and challenges of being an older mother. "I love being a mother. It's the best, best, best part of my life," she said. However, she admitted the pressure to stay healthy is real, given she is now 53 with a toddler. "The only pressure for me now is I have to live to be, like, 107, you know?" she joked. "The women who have children my age are literally 20 years younger... I want to feel vital like that for my child." She added, "I'm just trying to stay alive just like every other mother. I'm just trying to keep it going."
With the support of her husband Benji, whom she married in 2015, Diaz has successfully maintained her Hollywood status. Fans have praised her natural aging, with one saying, "To see a naturally beautiful woman of a certain age represented is such a tonic." Another added, "A beautiful woman ageing naturally is so refreshing for Hollywood."
Evolution of Fame
Since her breakout role in 1994's The Mask, Diaz has been a go-to blonde bombshell in films like Charlie's Angels and There's Something About Mary. She reflected on how fame has changed, noting that social media has made celebrity accessible to anyone. "It could happen to anyone, whether they want it to or not. Social media has changed everything. Everyone can have their 15 minutes of fame now," she said. When asked for advice on navigating fame, she replied, "There is no handbook or manual on being famous. You have to write your own and make it your own."
Reuniting with Keanu Reeves
Outcome marks Diaz's second collaboration with Keanu Reeves, their first being Feeling Minnesota in 1996. She joked that she hoped he had forgotten that experience. "I was so green. I was kind of hoping he had forgotten all about it but he hadn't. He remembered," she laughed. However, she praised Reeves for remaining unchanged: "Keanu is the same generous, lovely human being he was back then. He hasn't changed at all."
Upcoming Projects
With two kids at home, life is busy for Diaz, but it is about to get even more hectic. She is filming a new movie in New York with The Office star Stephen Merchant, titled The Sham, where they play unlikely lovers whose fake marriage blossoms into real romance. She is also set to star in the Netflix film Bad Day, playing a single mother having the worst day ever, and is reportedly developing a sequel to the 1980s comedy Troop Beverly Hills. After a long break from showbiz, Diaz is certainly making up for lost time.
