Jeremy Clarkson Defends Holly Ramsay Over 'Cruel' Wedding Dress Jibe
Clarkson defends Holly Ramsay after 'cruel' wedding remark

Television presenter Jeremy Clarkson has launched an unexpected and robust defence of Holly Ramsay, following what he described as 'cruel' remarks about her wedding attire in a national newspaper column.

Clarkson's Fierce Defence of a 'Sweet Kid'

The controversy stems from comments made about the wedding of Holly Ramsay, 26, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty. The couple tied the knot at Bath Abbey on 27 December 2025. In a subsequent column for the Daily Mail, writer Sarah Vine criticised Holly's dress, suggesting windy conditions made her look like she had "got tangled up in a bedsheet".

Clarkson, 65, responded forcefully in his own column for The Sun. He stated he felt "horror" upon reading Vine's words and laid out a simple rule: never say anything negative about a bride's dress. "Even if it looked like a 'blancmange', saying so out loud would be totally out of order," he wrote.

Why Clarkson Felt Compelled to Speak Out

Explaining his personal connection to the situation, the former Top Gear host revealed his close friendship with Gordon Ramsay's family. "I've known Gordon and his family for some time. They've even been to stay, and my eldest daughter remains friends with Holly," Clarkson wrote. "So I know she's a sweet kid."

He argued that while public figures are fair game for criticism, their children should be off-limits, especially on such a significant day. "It is absolutely fair enough to have a go at those who stick their heads above the parapet. I do that all the time," he conceded. "But Holly is simply the daughter of chef Gordon Ramsay. Why lay into her? It seems to be just cruel." He concluded with a direct message: "Lay into the father if you must. But his kids? No. Leave them alone, and especially so on their wedding day."

Life After the Big Day

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds are believed to have flown to Mauritius for their honeymoon, a gift from Holly's parents, Gordon and Tanya Ramsay.

In a lighter aside within the same column, Clarkson, known for his Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm, shared a humorous anecdote about his own recent misfortunes. He revealed he had accidentally left the lights on in his Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster pickup truck, flattening the battery. After jump-starting it, he then forgot the engine was running and subsequently ran out of fuel. "How was I ever a motoring journalist?" he quipped, showcasing his trademark self-deprecating humour amidst the more serious defence of his friend's daughter.
