Jeremy Clarkson Defends Holly Ramsay After 'Cruel' Wedding Dress Jibe
Clarkson defends Holly Ramsay over 'cruel' wedding dress remark

Television presenter Jeremy Clarkson has launched a staunch defence of Holly Ramsay, following what he described as 'cruel' remarks about her wedding day attire from a newspaper columnist.

Clarkson's Unexpected Defence

The outspoken star, known for his work on Top Gear and now Amazon Prime's Diddly Squad Farm, took to his column in The Sun to voice his support for the 26-year-old daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Clarkson, 65, expressed his 'horror' after reading comments by Sarah Vine in the Daily Mail.

Vine had written about Holly's wedding to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, which took place at Bath Abbey on December 27, 2025. In her piece, Vine suggested the windy weather made Holly's lace-edged satin dress look as though the bride had 'got tangled up in a bedsheet'.

A Matter of Principle and Friendship

Clarkson made it clear that his defence was rooted in both principle and personal connection. 'There is one thing I know with absolute certainty,' he wrote, 'which is never to say anything negative about a bride’s dress.' He added that even if a gown resembled a 'blancmange', voicing such an opinion would be completely out of order.

Explaining his personal stake, Clarkson revealed his long-standing friendship with Gordon Ramsay's family. 'I've known Gordon and his family for some time,' he stated. 'They've even been to stay, and my eldest daughter remains friends with Holly. So I know she's a sweet kid.' This connection fuelled his anger, leading him to conclude that Vine 'should be ashamed of herself'.

He issued a direct plea to critics: 'Lay into the father if you must. But his kids? No. Leave them alone, and especially so on their wedding day.'

Life After the Big Day

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds, Holly Ramsay and Adam Peaty, are believed to have flown to Mauritius for their honeymoon. The luxurious trip was reportedly a wedding gift from Holly's parents, Gordon and Tanya Ramsay.

In a lighter aside within the same column, Clarkson also recounted his own recent troubles, involving a flat battery in his Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster pickup truck. After jump-starting the vehicle, he forgot he had left the engine running to recharge the battery, subsequently running it out of fuel. 'How was I ever a motoring journalist?' he quipped, showcasing his trademark self-deprecating humour amidst the more serious defence of his friend's daughter.
