Davina McCall and her new husband Michael Douglas were radiating joy as they departed the Broadcast Awards after party on Wednesday evening. The couple, who tied the knot late last year after six years together, showcased their impeccable style at the prestigious London event held at the JW Marriott Hotel.
Glamorous Arrivals and Award-Winning Night
The 58-year-old television presenter made a stunning entrance in a glamorous silver sequinned dress that caught the light with every movement. Meanwhile, 49-year-old Michael Douglas displayed his own distinctive fashion sense in a bold blue trouser suit that complemented his wife's sparkling ensemble perfectly.
Davina's attendance held special significance as her ITV programme Long Lost Family received induction into the ceremony's Hall of Fame. This honour recognised the show's remarkable fifteen-year tenure on British television screens, celebrating its enduring popularity and emotional impact on viewers across the nation.
Netflix Makes Broadcast Awards History
The evening saw streaming giant Netflix achieve a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first streaming service ever to win the coveted Broadcaster of the Year award. This historic victory was propelled by two standout productions: the hit drama Adolescence secured Best New Drama, while the powerful documentary Grenfell: Uncovered claimed Best Documentary Programme.
Traditional broadcasters also enjoyed considerable success throughout the ceremony. The BBC collected an impressive nine awards, including Best Comedy for Here We Go and Best Specialist Factual Programme for Helmand: Tour of Duty. Channel 4 celebrated multiple victories with Virgin Island winning Best Factual Entertainment, Big Boys taking Best Comedy Drama, and their documentary State Of Rage earning Best Current Affairs.
Additional Winners and Streaming Triumphs
Sky secured two significant awards: Best News Programme for their coverage of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's downfall, and Best Documentary Series for Bibaa & Nicole: Murder in the Park. The streaming landscape continued to impress with Prime Video's Last One Laughing crowned Best Entertainment Programme, while Apple TV's critically acclaimed Slow Horses scooped Best Returning Drama.
Davina's Health Journey and Career Reassessment
Beyond the glittering awards ceremony, Davina McCall has been navigating significant personal health challenges that have prompted profound lifestyle changes. The television star recently revealed her breast cancer diagnosis to fans, explaining she had detected it early after noticing a lump and undergoing medical checks. This led to a successful lumpectomy procedure followed by a course of preventative radiotherapy that she completed last month.
Speaking emotionally in an Instagram video about finishing her treatment, Davina shared: 'I finished my radiotherapy today, and it was very, very emotional.' She paused momentarily before adding: 'Much more emotional than I thought it would be. And I need a bit of positivity and brilliance, so I'm going to go and watch Julia Bradbury on Begin Again.'
Embracing Change After Health Scares
The breast cancer diagnosis followed another serious health scare in 2024 when Davina underwent surgery for a rare brain tumour. Speaking candidly on the Miss Me? podcast, the Masked Singer judge explained how these consecutive health challenges forced her to confront lifelong patterns of overwork and resistance to change.
'I had an amazing breakthrough when I got clean in the early nineties,' she reflected, referencing her past struggles with heroin and alcohol addiction. 'I had another huge breakthrough after I had my brain tumour removed. I realised that I needed to de-stress my life.'
Davina continued: 'Interestingly, I realised that - but then the breast cancer, which I thought was a very, very frightening thing, made me realise that I really, really had to put that into place. And I have now.'
New Work-Life Balance and Personal Priorities
The television personality has announced she is stepping back from full-time work, implementing a four-day week to achieve better life balance. 'I feel so much better now about my life and trying to get it more balanced,' she explained. 'So now, really, as I hit this stage of my life, I want to take more care of myself. That is my latest project: me, because I can't take care of anyone else if I'm not okay.'
The 14mm brain growth was discovered during a health scan offered as part of her menopause advocacy work. Following a six-hour operation, Davina spent several days in intensive care before making what medical professionals described as a remarkable recovery. Her journey through these health challenges has clearly reshaped her perspective on work, wellbeing, and personal priorities as she moves forward with renewed purpose.
