Dermot O'Leary's Coin Blunder on The Weakest Link Stuns Viewers
Dermot O'Leary's Weakest Link coin question fail

Television presenter Dermot O'Leary faced an embarrassing moment during a celebrity edition of The Weakest Link after failing to identify a missing UK coin from a simple picture round.

The Costly Coin Confusion

The 52-year-old This Morning star was among famous contestants, including boxer Anthony Ogogo and Loose Women presenter Charlene White, competing to win money for charity on the BBC quiz show. Hosted by comedian Romesh Ranganathan, the episode saw Dermot presented with an image of a collection of standard UK coins early in the game.

Romesh asked the former X Factor host: 'Which standard UK coin is missing from this image?' After a brief examination, Dermot confidently answered '5p'. However, Romesh quickly informed him that this was incorrect, revealing that the 5p coin was actually present and the correct answer was the 10p piece. A dismayed O'Leary was seen with his head in his hands over the surprising misstep.

Charlene White Claims Victory For Charity

Despite the early blunder, Dermot managed to progress through subsequent rounds, eventually reaching the final head-to-head against Charlene White, 45. Both hoped to secure the prize fund for their chosen charities. In a tense conclusion, Charlene narrowly defeated Dermot by a single point.

This victory meant she successfully bagged the episode's £8,200 prize, which was donated to her charity, Sarcoma UK.

Viewers Distracted by Charlotte Crosby's 'Shouting'

The celebrity special, which aired on New Year's Eve, also featured former Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby, 35. However, many viewers at home found themselves distracted by her loud delivery throughout the show.

Host Romesh Ranganathan even joked: 'You know your mic is on, don't you? How far away do you think I am?' A giddy Charlotte replied that she became 'excited like a seagull', a comparison that left the comedian confused until she clarified: 'They do it when they want a chip.'

Taking to social media platform X, fans shared their frustration. One viewer commented: 'Just started watching The Weakest Link and can the shouty person stop shouting?!' Another wrote: 'Seriously is Charlotte Crosby high or drunk? Slurring Les Miserables and shouting out constantly.' A third added: 'Not even finished the first round... I’m gonna turn it off if they don’t vote Charlotte Crosby off first. SO annoying. STOP SHOUTING???'

The Weakest Link airs on BBC One and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
