Faye Dunaway, 85, Makes Rare Public Appearance at Film Festival
Faye Dunaway, 85, Appears Publicly After Two Years

Faye Dunaway, the Oscar-winning actress best known for her role in Bonnie and Clyde, has made her first public appearance in two years. The 85-year-old Hollywood icon attended the screening of her 1976 film Network at the TCM Classic Film Festival on Sunday, held at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood.

A Low-Key Return

Dunaway has kept a low profile since the infamous 2017 Academy Awards mix-up, when she and Warren Beatty mistakenly announced La La Land as Best Picture instead of the actual winner, Moonlight, after being handed the wrong envelope. At the festival, she appeared youthful and elegant in a black suit adorned with red floral details, paired with a white shirt and sneakers.

A Legendary Career

Dunaway rose to prominence with her iconic portrayal of bank robber Bonnie Parker in the 1967 classic Bonnie and Clyde, which earned her first Oscar nomination. She received another nomination for her role in 1974's Chinatown before winning the Best Actress Academy Award for Network in 1976, where she played a ruthless television executive. Her filmography also includes hits like The Thomas Crown Affair and The Towering Inferno.

In 2024, she participated in the critically acclaimed HBO documentary Faye, which explored her storied career.

Tribute to Robert Redford

In September, Dunaway paid an eloquent tribute to her former co-star Robert Redford after his death at age 89. The two starred together in the 1975 spy thriller Three Days of Condor. Dunaway told the Daily Mail, 'Robert Redford embodied the phrase, "Le vrai elegance American" — The true American elegance — in every way: physically, emotionally, artistically. He was a heartfelt American original. I am proud and fortunate to have called him a colleague and a friend.'

The New Yorker praised their on-screen chemistry, calling their work together 'the most touching, and the most unsettled, in all of Redford’s work.' Dunaway had previously recalled her first meeting with Redford, noting it was difficult to pretend to be scared of the 'gorgeous' actor.
