The much-loved Siddiqui family from Channel 4's Gogglebox have been inundated with messages of comfort from fans after sharing a heartfelt post about a devastating double loss they suffered last year.
A Year of Heartbreak for the Derby Family
Taking to their joint family Instagram account, as well as her own, Melissa Siddiqui – wife of Baasit Siddiqui – posted a reflective look back at 2025. The photo collection included touching images of their two family cats, who both sadly passed away during the year.
In the caption, Mel wrote: “2025 Recap Some highlights of the year...including our two fur angels that left us this year. Heart full of memories made this year.” The family, who hail from Derby and have been fan favourites since joining the show's first series in 2013, first announced the death of their cat Rufus in February 2025.
At the time, they posted a tribute stating: “Goodnight our beautiful boy Rufus. 15 and a half years wasn’t long enough, you were and always will be a big part of our lives.”
An Outpouring of Fan Love and Support
The family's emotional update prompted an immediate wave of sympathy from their dedicated followers in the comments section. One supporter wrote: “Beautiful memories of 2025 here's to lots more in 2026 xx happy new year to you both and your beautiful family.”
Another added: “Such a beautiful family happy new year,” while a third chimed in with: “Beautiful memories for a beautiful family.” The response highlights the strong connection viewers feel with the Siddiqui clan, known for their hilarious commentary on the weekly television highlights.
The Family Behind the Screens
The Siddiqui family on Gogglebox consists of father Sid and his three sons: Baasit, Umar, and Raza. Their mother, Nasreen, does not appear on the programme. Away from the cameras, Baasit is married to Melissa, and the couple are parents to two children, Amelia and Theodore.
Melissa regularly keeps their social media followers updated on family life, making the shared grief over their pets a poignant moment for their online community. Gogglebox, which features the family's reactions to the week's TV, typically airs on Channel 4 every Friday at 9pm.
