The glitzy Golden Globe Awards ceremony on Sunday night officially launched Hollywood's 2025 awards season, but the event was quickly overshadowed by a cocktail of scandal, rule-breaking, and apparent boredom amongst its A-list attendees.
Blind Item Reveals Awkward Flirting Scandal
While the stars mingled at the Beverly Hilton, gossip began to swirl from an unlikely source. The popular anonymous tipster platform DeuxMoi shared a blind item after the show, detailing an uncomfortable encounter. According to a source, an unnamed 'young Hollywood A-lister' was seen getting "very flirty" with a brunette woman who was believed to be his friend's wife, noting she "definitely had a ring on".
The tipster described "lots of leaning in, inside jokes, touching her arm" in a manner that was "not exactly subtle". The interaction reportedly culminated in "awkward energy and a quick exit" after the woman's husband, who was also the actor's friend, noticed the behaviour and "did not take it well".
Stars Slip Out Early as Viewers Brand Show 'Cringe'
The alleged flirting was not the only sign of discontent at the hours-long ceremony. A number of high-profile guests made early departures, leaving the Beverly Hilton before the final awards were handed out. This group reportedly included Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, and actor Keegan-Michael Key.
Their early exit mirrored the sentiment of many viewers at home, who took to social media to slam the Golden Globes broadcast as 'cringe' and a 'disappointment'. The ceremony failed to capture the audience's imagination, despite its role as the traditional opener for the awards season.
Rule-Breaking and Grimaces Mar the Night
Further controversy emerged from veteran actor Sean Penn. According to a Vanity Fair live blog, the 65-year-old, two-time Oscar winner lit a cigarette inside the smoke-free hotel venue, blatantly ignoring the established rules.
Meanwhile, nominee Amanda Seyfried, 40, could not hide her disappointment when she lost the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture to Rose Byrne for 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You'. Cameras caught Seyfried, nominated for 'The Testament of Ann Lee', grimacing with a pained expression before rising to applaud the winner.
In contrast, Jennifer Lawrence made a rare red carpet appearance with her husband, Cooke Maroney. The 35-year-old actress commanded attention in a daring sheer gown, providing one of the night's few uncontroversial fashion highlights.
