Reality television personality Kristin Cavallari faced a bitterly cold and challenging evening after revealing her home had been without electricity for hours during a severe winter storm affecting large portions of the United States over the weekend.
Winter Storm Challenges in Tennessee
The 39-year-old star, known for her appearances on Laguna Beach and The Hills, shared a series of videos to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, documenting the difficult conditions at her property near Nashville, Tennessee. Her state was among twenty-three, plus the District of Columbia, to declare a state of emergency due to the dangerous weather system threatening the nation.
In her initial post, Cavallari filmed her feet crunching through snow topped with a thin, treacherous layer of ice. She was clad in fuzzy white boots with multicoloured laces and a thick brown wool coat to combat the freezing temperatures.
'No power all day and this is about to turn into pure ice with the temp dropping,' she wrote as the caption, expressing concern about the rapidly deteriorating situation.
Icy Driveway and Fallen Branches
As she trudged through the snow and sludge down her driveway, Cavallari voiced her worries about the surface becoming completely iced over. 'So the driveway — all I can think about is how this is gonna be pure ice,' she stated in the video, pausing to stamp her feet to break some of the forming ice.
The situation took a humorous turn in a follow-up clip where she nearly lost her footing while walking behind her ten-year-old daughter, Saylor. 'Oh my God, I'm literally sliding down!' she chuckled, trying to maintain her balance on the sloping driveway that winds through dense trees.
Further complicating matters, Cavallari revealed that a large tree branch had fallen across her driveway, making it difficult for anyone to enter or leave the property. She stood beneath the ice-covered branch, which was lodged against a hillside, accompanied by her dogs. The obstruction threatened to damage any vehicle attempting to pass, with another sizeable branch lying on the road potentially harming a car's undercarriage.
'This is me officially canceling my entire week. Thanks,' she captioned the post, resigning herself to being housebound.
Preparing for a Dark and Cold Night
As daylight began to fade, Cavallari gave her 4.9 million followers a brief tour of her home, which was soon to be enveloped in freezing darkness. 'Getting ready to lose the daylight. Thankful for all the candles at my house,' she wrote, referencing her own brand, Uncommon James.
She had opened all her blinds to maximise the diminishing natural light from the cloud-covered sun and had arranged numerous burning candles on coffee tables and her kitchen's grey granite-topped island to illuminate the space.
'All right, we're losing daylight,' Cavallari updated her audience. 'Thank God, I own my own candles, and I have a plethora of them to put all over my house. I have three different scents going, 'cause that's just where we're at.'
Reflection on Podcast Content After Children's Friends Listen
These weather-related difficulties emerged shortly after Cavallari discussed becoming more mindful about the content on her Let's Be Honest podcast, particularly after learning that her school-age sons' friends had heard her discussing intimate topics.
The reality star, who shares sons Camden, 13, and Jaxon, 11, and daughter Saylor with ex-husband Jay Cutler, 42, described the discovery as a 'real eye-opener.' She explained that her sons informed her that their friends had seen an episode where she played a drinking game and talked about sexual matters with her younger ex-boyfriend, TikTok star Mark Estes, 25.
'And I was like, "Whoa," that made me really pause,' Cavallari told fellow podcast host Rachel Bilson. 'I need to start being careful because it's really, I don't care at the end of the day what Jax and Camden think about me. It's my kids. But I can't be saying stuff that's gonna affect them and their friends.'
She acknowledged that this revelation has led her to 'pull back' and find a way to express herself without being overly explicit. Cavallari and Estes dated for seven months in 2024, with age reportedly becoming a factor in their split. During a December 2024 podcast episode, Estes told Cavallari she was 'the best sex I ever had for sure.'
Moving Forward and Personal Life
Following the end of that relationship, Cavallari has spoken about her ideal partner, telling Extra's Billy Bush she is 'manifesting' someone who is around 45, not famous, possibly owning a business in Tennessee, and perhaps with older children. She emphasised she was not referring to anyone specific.
Cavallari was married to former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler for seven years until their separation in 2020, with the divorce finalised in 2022. She first rose to fame on the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County from 2004 to 2006, later appearing on The Hills from 2009 to 2010.
