Scottish music icon Lulu has dropped a bombshell revelation about her late ex-husband, Bee Gees star Maurice Gibb, suggesting he may have fathered a child with another woman during their marriage. The 77-year-old singer made the astonishing claim during a candid interview on Louis Theroux's podcast, where she discussed her four-year marriage to Gibb that ended in 1973.
Shocking Revelation About Bee Gees Legend
Lulu, best known for her 1964 hit "Shout," told Theroux she has recently discovered what she describes as "irrefutable proof" that Gibb secretly fathered a son following a brief fling. "I think he's got a son. It might have happened when we were married. I just found out," Lulu revealed during the emotional podcast episode.
The singer explained that someone showed her evidence of the alleged child, though she couldn't recall the exact year of conception. "Someone showed me something and I can't remember the year he impregnated this girl after a one night stand and he has a son who has had his genes taken. It's proven. He's a hundred percent Maurice's," Lulu stated with conviction.
Marriage Details and Aftermath
Lulu and Maurice Gibb were married from 1969 to 1973, during the height of the Bee Gees' initial fame. Gibb, who was born in Manchester but raised in Australia alongside his famous brothers, died in 2003 at age 53 from complications following intestinal surgery. He was survived by his second wife Yvonne Spenceley and their two known children, daughter Samantha and son Adam.
Despite her shocking claim, Lulu admitted she hasn't confirmed when Maurice's alleged son was born, saying "it wasn't that important" to her personally. This revelation comes decades after their divorce and nearly twenty years after Gibb's passing.
Post-Divorce Relationships and Reflections
Following her split from Gibb, Lulu had notable relationships with celebrity hairstylist John Frieda and music legend David Bowie. She described her romance with Bowie as "a brief relationship" and "a fling" that occurred while Bowie was experiencing "stratospheric success." Lulu acknowledged that her involvement with Bowie created tension in her relationship with Frieda, who "knew, and it was an issue."
Wisdom Gained Through Experience
Now in her late seventies, Lulu reflected on how her perspective has evolved over the decades. "I think I used to take myself way too seriously," she told Theroux. "And it's painful when you take yourself too seriously or when you see the world black and white because there are many grey areas and I've learned through trial and tribulation."
The singer emphasized that despite her fame, she shares common human experiences: "You know, I've had unbelievable highs, but I've also had a lot of lows, which most people have in their life. For God's sake, I'm no different to anybody else in that respect."
Closing the Circle with Maurice
Before Gibb's death, Lulu invited her ex-husband to perform on her star-studded ITV special, "An Audience With Lulu." She explained to Theroux that she "sort of knew in my heart that he would probably jump and he did" at the opportunity. Reflecting on this reunion, Lulu said: "Maurice was a very sweet guy though. You know I didn't want to use him, but I was using him. You know what, now I'm glad because it touched people's hearts."
This professional collaboration provided what Lulu described as closure to their relationship. "You know, sometimes in ending a relationship, you don't say all that you wanted to say or you don't explain yourself, or there's confusion or there's misunderstandings. It seemed to close the circle," she concluded emotionally.
