Reality TV Romance Turns Sour as On-Screen Feuds Leave Ex 'Humiliated'
Former Love Island star Chris Hughes allegedly felt 'humiliated' during his high-profile relationship with fellow contestant Olivia Attwood, with sources close to the reality TV personality revealing the emotional toll of having their private arguments broadcast to a national audience.
From Villa Romance to Public Breakup
The pair first met on the 2017 series of ITV's popular dating programme, where they formed an immediate connection that saw them finish in third place. Following their departure from the villa, their relationship quickly became a media fascination, leading to their own spin-off series titled Chris and Olivia: Crackin' On.
This documentary-style show was intended to capture their everyday lives and blossoming romance, but instead became a platform for their increasingly public disputes. In one particularly memorable scene, Chris appeared visibly distressed while declaring he no longer wished to be with Olivia, whom he claimed 'can never do anything wrong'.
The Reality of Reality Television
Another explosive moment featured Chris telling his then-girlfriend not to speak to him again, with Olivia responding by branding him 'f***ing nasty'. These confrontations were broadcast to millions of viewers, creating what insiders describe as a 'difficult' situation for Hughes.
'Chris is literally the nicest guy you could meet,' a source revealed. 'He is often referred to as the nicest man in showbiz, nobody has a bad word to say about him. But Olivia went for him on their show and it was very difficult for him. Viewers would often say that she gaslit Chris and humiliated him. It was horrible.'
Post-Breakup Tensions and Subtle Digs
Despite their 2018 separation, tensions appear to have lingered between the former couple. Olivia recently made what many interpreted as a subtle dig at Chris and his new girlfriend, JoJo Siwa, whom he met during last year's Celebrity Big Brother.
The reality star shared a video of herself miming along to Connie Francis's song Pretty Little Baby, with her eyes flicking in a manner that seemed to mimic Siwa before bursting into laughter. Captioning the post, Attwood wrote: 'I just know this is going to trigger people so badly.'
Trust Issues and Relationship Patterns
The original split between Chris and Olivia was attributed to a 'breach of trust', following allegations that she had been texting her ex-boyfriend, who would later become her now-estranged husband, Bradley Dack. 'Imagine if he hadn't,' a source commented regarding Chris discovering the alleged messages. 'She might be with him now still and that would be truly horrifying.'
Interestingly, Olivia's marriage to footballer Bradley Dack has recently ended under similar circumstances, with an alleged breach of trust cited as the reason for their separation just two and a half years after their wedding.
A Decade-Long Relationship Cycle
Olivia and Bradley's relationship spanned over a decade, beginning before her Love Island appearance. Their initial romance ended when Bradley cheated on her, but they reconciled after her split from Chris, with Bradley proposing in 2019.
Sources indicate that despite previous hopes for reconciliation, this latest separation appears permanent. 'They have always managed to overcome any problems between them, including distance, their busy careers, and, in the past, betrayals from Bradley's side,' an insider explained. 'But after meeting over a decade ago, Bradley's recent breach of trust, which came as a complete shock to Olivia, has led them to end their marriage.'
The same source added definitively: 'After being on and off at the start of their romance, some people have questioned whether this breakup is temporary, but it's definitely not.'
Representatives for both Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood have been approached for comment regarding these latest revelations about their past relationship and its very public unraveling.
