Channel 4's The Hunt Contestant Hospitalised After Suffering 17 Seizures
A participant from the inaugural series of Channel 4's reality show The Hunt: Prey Vs Predator has disclosed a harrowing health crisis that occurred shortly after filming. Nathan, aged 33, was urgently transported to hospital following a series of 17 seizures, which left him temporarily paralyzed and unable to speak. This medical emergency unfolded just weeks after he completed his involvement in the high-stakes television programme, where contestants compete in a cat-and-mouse game for a £100,000 prize.
Functional Neurological Disorder Diagnosis and Impact
Nathan has been diagnosed with functional neurological disorder (FND), a condition that, according to the NHS, involves disruptions in how the brain communicates with the rest of the body. He is also the founder of the FND North West Community Hub, a peer support network. Despite his health challenges, Nathan chose to participate in The Hunt to demonstrate that his condition would not hinder him from living a full life. "I didn't want to let it stop me living my life," he affirmed, highlighting his determination to overcome personal limitations.
Hospitalisation and Recovery Journey
The severe health episode occurred on June 4, 2025, during a spa trip for his wife's 40th birthday. Nathan described the incident: "I had 17 seizures within an hour, and was blue-lighted into Blackpool Victoria Hospital. At that point, I couldn't speak a word and was paralyzed from the hip down on my left side." This led to a three-month hospital stay and rehabilitation, during which he had to relearn basic functions like walking and talking. Currently, Nathan uses a Zimmer frame at home and requires a wheelchair for outdoor mobility, marking a significant change in his daily life.
Connection to the Show and Production Support
Nathan clarified that his hospitalisation was not directly caused by his participation in The Hunt, attributing it instead to a flare-up of his FND. He was the first contestant eliminated from the show. However, he praised the production team for their care during filming, noting that they provided support when he experienced a seizure during a break. "Every single member of the production crew really looked after me, and they couldn't have done enough," he stated, acknowledging their responsiveness to his medical needs.
Background and Ongoing Challenges
Nathan's health struggles began in 2022 with initial symptoms, but he was not formally diagnosed until August 2024. He admitted to ignoring early signs, such as left-hand weakness and seizures, while continuing to work and maintain a normal routine. Reflecting on his decision to join the show, he said, "It was just for me to prove that I could still do it, but now, that's not the case." His experience underscores the unpredictable nature of FND and the profound impact it can have on individuals' lives, even as they strive to pursue their passions and ambitions.
