Suki Waterhouse turned heads as she arrived at The Metropolitan Museum of Art gala on Monday, wearing a daring low-cut pink gown. The 34-year-old actress looked stunning in a floor-length draped evening dress in a muted coral hue.
Gown Details
The gown featured a plunging neckline extending to the waist, creating a bold vertical line. The bodice was softly gathered with pleating that converged at the midsection, cinching to define the waist. From the waist down, the dress fell into a column silhouette with a slight mermaid influence, gently flaring toward the hem into a soft train. The lightweight, fluid fabric allowed it to drape elegantly on the floor.
At the back, the gown included a cape-like extension or draped panels cascading from the shoulders, adding movement and a classical drama reminiscent of Grecian or neoclassical styling. Accessories were minimal but refined, including a silver leaf-like headpiece that reinforced the classical inspiration.
Met Gala 2026 Theme and Co-Chairs
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, commonly known as the Met Gala, takes place on the first Monday in May each year. The theme for 2026 is 'Costume Art,' with a dress code of 'Fashion Is Art,' calling on A-list attendees to explore how designers use the human body as a blank canvas.
Leading the event is a powerhouse trio of co-chairs: Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, joining forces with Vogue's global editorial director Anna Wintour. This is the first time tennis superstar Williams has co-chaired the gala. Kidman previously co-chaired in 2003 and 2005, while Beyonce served as an honorary chair in 2013.
Exhibition Details
The New York City museum will pair historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute for the exhibition, loosely divided into three categories: classical and the nude body, aging and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body. The exhibit will unveil the Met's sprawling new Conde M. Nast Galleries, made possible by lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute's curator, said at a press conference, 'The title "Costume Art" refers to the history of the costume institute.' He added that fashion has 'the status of art because of, and not in spite of, its relation to the body.' French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent is also sponsoring the exhibit.
Host Committee and Funding
The 2026 Met Gala also features a host committee with co-chairs Anthony Vaccarello and Zoe Kravitz, along with members including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Angela Bassett, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, and Teyana Taylor.
Costume Art will run from May 10, 2026 through January 10, 2027, following the Met Gala on May 4. The event is a major fundraiser for the museum, providing the Costume Institute with its main source of funding.
Anna Wintour's Role
The 2026 Met Gala marks the first since Anna Wintour stepped back from her role as editor-in-chief of American Vogue after 37 years in June 2025. She remains global director for Vogue and global chief content officer at Conde Nast, having hired Chloe Malle as the new head of editorial content at Vogue. Wintour has been instrumental in making the Met Gala the splashy A-list affair it is today, beloved by celebrities like Rihanna, the Kardashians, Blake Lively, and Zendaya.
Last year, many stars skipped the Met Gala, possibly to avoid missteps with the theme 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' centered on Black dandyism.
