While Bella is typically a permanent fixture on the runway during Milan Fashion Week, she has recently taken some time off due to her ongoing battle with Lyme disease. The supermodel has struggled with this chronic neurological condition for 14 years and has been undergoing intensive treatment.
In a recent interview with Vogue Italia, Bella revealed that she was forced to turn down "every job for almost a year" due to her health issues. She expressed that this period was emotionally challenging, stating, "I was emotional because you feel disposable."
Bella has since learned to prioritise her well-being and maintain a healthier work-life balance. She explained, "The way that I worked for many years was not sustainable. I think that, you know, even during COVID I continued to work." Now, she finds fulfillment in spending time with her horses and dog in Texas before returning to work.
The model emphasised her newfound ability to say "no" to jobs that aren't with people she loves, trusts, supports, and respects. This shift in perspective has been crucial during her Lyme disease treatment and recovery.
Family Support and Ongoing Battle
Bella's mother, Yolanda Hadid, has been a vocal supporter throughout her daughter's health journey. In September, Yolanda posted an Instagram tribute praising Bella as a "bada** warrior" and expressing admiration for her bravery in fighting for health despite numerous setbacks.
Yolanda wrote, "There simply aren't words big enough for the darkness, the pain, and the unknown hell you've lived through since your diagnosis. You didn't really live, you learned how to exist inside the jail of your own paralyzed brain." She added her commitment to supporting Bella every step of the way.
Like Bella and her younger brother Anwar, Yolanda contracted Lyme disease in 2012. She has documented seeing 106 doctors and undergoing various treatments, including Stem Cell transplant and Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, in her book "Believe Me." Yolanda remains determined to find an affordable cure for all sufferers.
Back in 2023, Yolanda declared herself "finally healthy" and expressed pride in not giving up on herself. Bella's appearance at the Orebella brunch marks a positive moment in her ongoing journey, blending fashion success with personal resilience.
