Inside Hampton Court Palace: A Real Tennis Pro's Haunted Home Revealed
Hampton Court Palace Resident Reveals Haunted Home

Life Within the Walls of Hampton Court Palace

For most, Hampton Court Palace is a magnificent tourist attraction steeped in Tudor history, once home to monarchs like Henry VIII and William III. Yet for a select few, this Grade I listed building is not just a historic site but an actual residence. Among them is Jack Josephs, a 28-year-old real tennis professional who has called the palace home for four years, offering a rare glimpse into daily life within its ancient walls.

A Spacious Yet Supernatural Abode

In a recent TikTok video, Jack Josephs showcased his flat, highlighting its unique charm and one significant drawback. While he adores the picturesque garden views from his windows, he candidly revealed that the palace is "definitely haunted", a claim that has piqued the curiosity of many. The building, which ceased being a royal residence after George II's death in 1760, now houses a small community, including staff and real tennis players like Jack, who maintain the historic court and craft handmade balls for the sport.

Tour of a Tudor Flat

Jack began his tour in the bathroom, describing it as "massive" with ample empty space, though standard-sized amenities like the shower. However, he noted a practical hazard: a low door frame that once gave him a concussion shortly after moving in. Thankfully, the palace maintenance team has since added padding to prevent future injuries.

Upstairs, his flat features a window and small sitting area overlooking the Tudor architecture, along with a decently sized bedroom boasting stunning grounds views. The layout takes an unconventional turn after the bedroom, with a kitchen positioned "in the middle" rather than at an end, and not one but two living rooms, adding to the quirky character of his home.

The Favourite Feature and Ghostly Tales

Despite the eerie reputation, Jack's favourite part is a "tiny" kitchen window that opens to reveal breathtaking views of the palace gardens. He expressed, "This is my favourite part. I've got this tiny little kitchen window which opens onto this amazing view." While he didn't elaborate on ghostly encounters in the video, he promised future posts to share spooky experiences, responding to commenters' requests for more supernatural stories.

Public Reaction and Historical Intrigue

The video sparked envy and fascination among viewers, with many overlooking the hauntings to express jealousy over Jack's unique living situation. Comments ranged from admiration for the cosy, history-rich environment to eager requests for ghost tales, with one visitor noting the palace's "eerie vibe" after dark. This blend of historical allure and modern-day mystery continues to captivate those drawn to Hampton Court's legendary past.
