Liam Payne's Sister Finds Solace at Tribute Gig by His Netflix Band
Liam Payne's Sister Attends Emotional Tribute Gig

Ruth Gibbins, the sister of the late singer Liam Payne, has shared an emotional insight into her grieving process, revealing how a poignant tribute at a recent concert provided a moment of solace.

A Poignant First Concert Since Tragedy

On Wednesday, Ruth attended a performance by the band Midnight 'Til Morning, a group formed on the Netflix reality series Building The Band, on which Liam served as a judge. This marked the first gig she had been to since her brother's tragic death in October 2024 at the age of 31.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, Ruth confessed that the idea of attending a concert had filled her with anxiety. "Live music, singing, concerts, it is all parts of Liam's life and it feels sad to be going to try and enjoy these things without him being around," she wrote.

A Touching Musical Tribute

Her apprehension turned to comfort when the band performed a special tribute. They played the song Midnight, which Liam had collaborated on with DJ Alesso. Ruth described the moment as profoundly moving, stating, "But when @midnighttilmorning started singing this, I knew it was exactly the right place to go back to seeing live music. Liam will be so proud of you all."

The band, comprised of Conor Smith, Mason Watts, Shane Appell, and Zach Newbould, had a close connection with Payne. He had admitted to having a "soft spot" for them as they reminded him of his own beginnings with One Direction.

Liam Payne's Lasting Legacy

Building The Band was Liam Payne's final television appearance, filmed mere months before his passing. His parents, Geoff and Karen, gave Netflix permission to air the show, feeling "this is how we want everyone to remember Liam." His fellow judge, Nicole Scherzinger, confirmed the family's pride and emotional support throughout the process.

The series has since earned Liam a posthumous nomination for Favorite On Screen at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, a fact Ruth recently highlighted as she encouraged fans to vote.

Midnight 'Til Morning have spoken openly about the profound impact Liam's death had on them, strengthening their bond and deepening their resolve. "When he passed, it was just such a shock, and our project meant so much more to us after that," they revealed, adding that they are determined to succeed in his memory.

Nicole Scherzinger reflected on working with Liam, noting he was in his "happy place" mentoring the bands and that his experience with One Direction made his guidance invaluable. "I am so thrilled for everyone to see Liam shine on this show," she said.
