Stone Roses' Mani's Brother Shares Heartbreaking Tribute After Bassist's Death
Mani's brother shares heartbreaking update after death

The brother of Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield has shared a series of heartbreaking updates on social media, just days after the musician's sudden death at the age of 63.

Family's Heartbreaking Announcement

The tragic news was first announced by Mani's brother, Greg Mounfield, on Thursday, November 20. In a poignant Facebook post that resonated with fans across the music world, Greg wrote: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother Gary Mani Mounfield. RIP RKID."

Adding to the emotional weight of the announcement, Greg commented below the original post with the touching words: "Reunited with his beautiful wife Imelda." This comes almost exactly two years after the passing of Mani's wife, Imelda, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2020 and sadly died in 2023.

A Flood of Family Tributes

In his most recent update on Saturday, November 22, Greg posted a heart-wrenching family photograph featuring Mani, Imelda, and their family on Facebook. He expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support, writing: "On behalf of myself and all my family Mounfield/McGill I would like to say a massive thanks for all the messages and tributes to RKid. RIP Gaz."

The family's grief has been shared through several nostalgic images. On Friday, November 21, Mani's stepbrother, John Barlow, posted a childhood photo of himself with Mani and Greg. He captioned it: "Absolutely devastated to hear of the sudden passing of my step brother Gary 'Mani' Mounfield. Having recently lost his wife Imelda it now leaves the two boys without a mum or dad. My thoughts are with his brother Greg and the boys, absolutely tragic."

Greg also shared a separate throwback photo of the two brothers, simply captioning the image of a young Mani in a zip-up and jeans, and himself in a blue shirt and glasses, with the word: "Heartbroken".

A Manchester Music Legend

Hailing from Crumpsall in Manchester, Mani shot to stardom after joining The Stone Roses in the 1980s. He played on both of the band's iconic albums and remained with them until their initial split in 1996, after which he moved on to join Primal Scream.

In 2011, he announced his departure from Primal Scream to reunite with the Stone Roses. Following the news of his passing, tributes have flooded in from across the music industry. Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown posted a heartfelt message that read: "REST IN PEACE MANi X."

A post shared by the Stone Roses' official channels echoed the profound loss, stating: "RIP our wonderful brother Mani. The greatest bass player and friend we could ever have wished for."
