Global music sensation Rosalía has issued a reassuring health update after a distressing incident that saw her rushed to hospital and forced to abruptly halt her live performance in Milan. The 33-year-old Catalan singer was mid-concert at the Unipol Forum when she announced she was feeling unwell, ultimately leading to the first mid-show cancellation of her entire career.
Concert Interrupted by Severe Illness
During what should have been another triumphant night on her international tour, Rosalía found herself battling what she described as "big time food poisoning." Fan footage captured the emotional moment when the Malamente hitmaker addressed the Milan audience, visibly struggling as she explained her deteriorating condition.
"I've tried to do this show. Since the beginning I've been sick," Rosalía told the concerned crowd. "I've had, como, big time food poisoning and I've tried to push it till the end, but I'm feeling extremely sick. I'm puking out there. And I really wanna give the best show, and I'm like on the floor, doing my best."
Hospitalisation and Recovery
The situation escalated to the point where Rosalía required immediate medical attention. She was transported to hospital on a stretcher and photographed receiving intravenous treatment via a drip. Demonstrating her characteristic resilience, the singer later shared a snapshot from her hospital bed with an encouraging message for her global fanbase.
"Feeling better thank you so much for all the love and understanding from everyone who was there," she captioned the image, offering grateful acknowledgement to supporters who witnessed the unsettling events unfold.
Tour Schedule Under Review
This health crisis comes at a particularly busy time for the award-winning artist, who is currently embarked on her extensive fourth international concert tour. Named after and promoting her fourth studio album Lux, released last year, the tour represents a significant milestone in her already illustrious career.
The Milan interruption represents a notable disruption to what has been an otherwise successful European leg. Rosalía began this segment with a concert in Lyon, France earlier this month before performing multiple shows in Paris and another in Zurich prior to the Milan incident.
Upcoming Performances
If her recovery progresses sufficiently, Rosalía is scheduled to return to the stage this coming Monday for the first of four concerts at Madrid's Movistar Arena. From there, her European itinerary includes:
- Lisbon
- Barcelona
- Amsterdam
- Antwerp
- Cologne
- Berlin
- Two shows at London's O2 Arena on May 5 and 6
Following a nearly month-long break, the tour will continue across North America, with performances planned for major cities including Miami, New York, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The international journey will then extend to Latin America, featuring South American destinations such as Bogotá, Santiago, Buenos Aires, and Rio de Janeiro before concluding with Mexican shows and a final performance in San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 3.
Artist's Perspective on Touring
In a revealing interview last year, Rosalía offered insight into her complex relationship with the demanding touring lifestyle. While she described making albums and performing as her "mission," she acknowledged the psychological challenges of constant travel.
"I don't like touring. I like to be onstage and I love my fans, so I do it," she confessed to Billboard. "But I love being in my home, calm, reading, cooking, going to the gym, lifting weights and going to sleep. Literally, that makes me so happy; I don't need a lot."
Despite these personal reservations, Rosalía maintains profound gratitude for her musical career, recognising that "there are other jobs that have so much complexity and challenges." Her commitment to delivering exceptional performances remains undiminished, even in the face of unexpected health setbacks like the food poisoning episode that temporarily derailed her Milan concert.
