In a candid revelation, actor Ényì Okoronkwo has disclosed that a significant personal milestone was left on the cutting room floor during the production of Sky's lavish new period drama, Amadeus.
A Steamy Scene Deemed 'Too Real'
Speaking exclusively at the show's London premiere, Okoronkwo confirmed that his first-ever on-screen sex scene was filmed but ultimately did not make the final edit of the series. The British actor, best known for roles in Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project, joked about the omission, suggesting the scene may have been cut for being "too real".
"The one thing that popped to mind is I did my first, kind of, sex scene," Okoronkwo revealed. "But it got cut! I'm not sure if that's something to be proud of, I don't know what I did! Maybe it was too real."
Portraying Mozart's 'Naughty' Librettist
In the five-part series, which adapts Peter Shaffer's celebrated stage play, Okoronkwo takes on the role of Lorenzo Da Ponte, the Italian opera librettist who collaborated with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The actor described his character as a "bit of a naughty boy", a trait he clearly relished playing.
He expressed immense pride in working alongside co-stars Paul Bettany (Antonio Salieri) and Will Sharpe (Mozart), admitting to daily nerves and excitement. "You wake up and, especially on set for these big moments, you go 'Okay... f***. I'm going to act with Paul Bettany today, I'm going to act with Will Sharpe today'," he said.
Musical Intimidation and Festive Ambition
Despite having childhood keyboard lessons, Okoronkwo confessed that watching Sharpe master Mozart's complex piano pieces for the camera was "quite intimidating" and did not rekindle his own musical ambitions.
The drama, directed by Julian Farino and Alice Seabright, is positioned as one of Sky's most ambitious festive offerings, featuring staged authentic operas and concertos. Sharpe's dedication to learning the piano compositions was a highlight of the production process.
Amadeus is available to stream now on Sky and NOW.
