Long-serving Good Morning Britain panellist Andrew Pierce has confirmed he is leaving the ITV breakfast show after ten years, describing the move as the "end of an era".
A Decade-Long Stint Comes to an End
The journalist and GB News host, famed for his regular debates with co-panellist Kevin Maguire, made the announcement via social media last week. He directly addressed speculation, stating his departure was a confirmed fact and not merely a suggestion.
His final week on the programme is now underway, with Pierce posting on X (formerly Twitter): "End of an era. Last week on @gmb with @susannareid100 as cant do extra spot in extended show from January." He signed off the post with an optimistic "Onwards, upwards."
Focus Shifts to GB News Role
Pierce was quick to point his audience towards his next venture, assuring viewers they can still see him on screen. He directed them to his presenting slot on GB News, which airs from 9.30am Monday to Thursday.
The broadcaster joined GB News in August 2022 and has previously celebrated the channel's resilience and ratings performance against competitors like Sky News.
Viewer Reaction and ITV Daytime Shake-Up
The announcement was met with disappointment from fans of the show's dynamic. One supporter commented on the unique chemistry, saying the "banter" between Pierce, Maguire, Susanna Reid, and Richard Madeley was "so watchable". Another suggested the duo of Pierce and Maguire should have their own dedicated programme.
Pierce's exit coincides with a broader restructuring of ITV's daytime schedule set for next month. Good Morning Britain will extend to three and a half hours, and to four when Lorraine is off-air. The Lorraine show itself is being reduced to a 30-week seasonal run, broadcasting only from 9.30am to 10am.
Similarly, Loose Women will revert to a 30-week annual schedule, mirroring its pre-2016 format. These changes signal a significant shift in ITV's daytime programming strategy.
Pierce, a former editor of The Daily Telegraph and The Times, hinted at his departure during a recent GMB episode. While discussing his off-screen relationship with Kevin Maguire with hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, he remarked, "Not for much longer, sadly," when asked if they were genuine friends away from the cameras.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
