ITV has released a heart-stopping first look at the unprecedented crossover event between its two flagship soaps, Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The exclusive 30-second trailer, unveiled during The Big Quiz hosted by Stephen Mulhern on Monday, previews a terrifying multi-vehicle collision that will bring the worlds of Weatherfield and the Dales together in a deadly clash.
Trailer Teases High-Stakes Drama and Cross-Soap Encounters
The newly released clip throws viewers straight into the chaotic aftermath of a major road accident. Characters from both serials are seen screaming in horror as the scale of the incident becomes clear. In the thick of the action, Emmerdale's paramedic Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) is shown tending to an injured David and Shona Platt (Jack P Shepherd and Julia Goulding) from Coronation Street at the roadside.
Meanwhile, Corrie's trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) finds herself working alongside the iconic Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) from Emmerdale to help other casualties. The trailer confirms the involvement of two pregnant women in the drama: Shona Platt and Emmerdale's Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). In later scenes, Charity attempts to calm a distraught Shona within the confines of Hotten General Hospital.
Key Details and New Characters Confirmed
The special, hour-long episode titled 'Corriedale' is scheduled to air at 8pm on Friday, January 5. In a departure from the usual schedule, the episode will not be available early on ITVX. Regular half-hour instalments of each soap will broadcast earlier that evening, with Emmerdale at 7pm and Coronation Street at 7.30pm; these will drop on ITVX at 7am that morning.
The crossover introduces several new faces from each show into the combined narrative. From Coronation Street, viewers will see Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), Carla Connor (Alison King), Asha Alahan, and James Bailey (Jason Callender). Emmerdale contributes Cain Dingle, Charity Dingle, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), Jacob Gallagher, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).
They join a roster of previously announced characters including David Platt, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford). The trailer's conclusion shows Kevin and Abi Webster (Michael Le Vell and Sally Carman-Duttine) searching for Debbie (Sue Devaney) at the crash site, while Robert Sugden desperately looks for Aaron Dingle in the darkness with Joe Tate.
A Celebration of Soap and a New Scheduling Era
This unique episode is billed as a celebration of the soap genre and will launch ITV's new 'soap power hour' scheduling pattern for the two programmes. Iain MacLeod, ITV Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, expressed his excitement, stating: "It's beyond exciting that filming is underway on Corriedale. There is a massive buzz around both the Leeds and Manchester sites... As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year. It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable."
Filming for the ambitious crossover began in October. ITV has promised that while the episode is self-contained, the consequences of the high-stakes drama will have lasting repercussions, linking the two communities forever as familiar faces depart and new characters arrive in both soaps.
