Ellen DeGeneres is making a surprise return to acting, reprising her iconic voice role as Dory in a new Pixar short film set within the Finding Nemo universe. This marks her first acting project in five years.
DeGeneres Confirms Return
The comedian confirmed her involvement in the still-untitled project on Instagram, following a report from Deadline. Plot details and release dates have yet to be announced. DeGeneres's character, Dory, a blue tang fish with short-term memory loss, was a central figure in the highly successful 2003 film Finding Nemo and its 2016 sequel, Finding Dory, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
Recent Life Changes
This new project follows DeGeneres's recent return to the US, having moved to the UK in 2024 with her wife, Portia de Rossi, after Donald Trump was elected for a second term. Despite initially planning to reside in the UK, DeGeneres and de Rossi put their Cotswolds home on the market a month later, explaining they needed a property with horse facilities for de Rossi.
Fans of the beloved character can look forward to more adventures with Dory as Pixar expands the Finding Nemo franchise with this new short film.
