Strictly Come Dancing fans have been given an exciting early glimpse of the glittering lineup set to compete in this year's highly anticipated Christmas Special. The festive edition, airing on December 25 at 5:30pm, will see six celebrity and professional dance partnerships vie for the coveted festive crown with themed routines designed to spread seasonal cheer.
A Festive Farewell for Beloved Hosts
This year's special will be a poignant moment for long-time viewers, as it marks the final show hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly. The beloved presenting duo announced their departure from the main series in October, making this Christmas episode a bittersweet farewell. Alongside the individual competitive dances, all celebrities will join together for two spectacular group performances to amplify the holiday magic.
Meet the 2024 Christmas Special Couples
The six couples have been revealed in their dazzling ballroom attire, each preparing a unique routine for the big day.
Babatunde Aléshé and Nancy Xu are channeling the popular 'Elf on the Shelf' tradition for their energetic Charleston. The 39-year-old comedian and Taskmaster star described his role as a mischievous elf trying to lead his professional partner astray. Nancy praised Baba's progress, calling him an amazing partner and noting the character suits him perfectly. Baba reflected that the experience underscored the importance of self-belief.
Mel Blatt and Kai Widdrington are bringing a jazzy number complete with theatrical flair and plenty of props. The 50-year-old All Saints singer admitted she found the prospect daunting initially but credited Kai for drawing out her best. Surprisingly, she cited the glamorous floor-length dress as one of her biggest challenges, as she is not a regular dress wearer.
Brian McFadden and Michelle Tsiakkas are performing an 'Elvis style' dance with a festive twist, where the 45-year-old Westlife singer transforms into Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Michelle promised a cool Rudolph with tricks, jumps, and high energy. Brian humorously conceded that his three decades of stage experience offered no help for ballroom dancing, calling it a completely different art form.
Gladiators, EastEnders and Reality Stars Complete the Lineup
Jodie Ounsley and Neil Jones will perform a commercial street dance. The 24-year-old Gladiators star revealed the routine includes a nod to her TV role and even an attempt to flip her pro partner. She admitted she nearly turned down the opportunity but found new confidence through Neil.
Nicholas Bailey and Luba Mushtuk are set to Waltz, specifically a faster Viennese Waltz. The 54-year-old EastEnders actor described it as disciplined yet flirtatious and energetic. Luba said fans would be surprised by how deeply Nicholas embraced feeling like a dancer, not just an actor playing a part.
Scarlett Moffatt and Vito Coppola round out the cast with a festive Cha Cha Cha. The 35-year-old Gogglebox star said the camp routine involves spinning in a giant bauble and being thrown around. She joked that she and Vito, along with Babatunde and Brian, were likely on the 'naughty list' for needing the most direction during group rehearsals.
The special promises a blend of sparkle, humour, and heartfelt moments as these celebrities take to the floor for one magical Christmas show.
