Just days after ITV unveiled the first look at its festive contestants, sharp-eyed viewers of The Masked Singer are already claiming a major unmasking. Fans believe they have worked out the identity of one mysterious celebrity set to perform in the show's Boxing Day Christmas special, all before a single clue has been officially broadcast.
The Festive Guessing Game Begins
The popular guessing game returns to ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm on Boxing Day, with host Joel Dommett presiding over the chaos. Regular panellists Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross, and Maya Jama will return, tasked with identifying four celebrities hidden inside elaborate new costumes: Mistletoe, Goose A-Laying, Figgy Pudding, and Santa's Sack.
This year, the detectives will receive extra assistance from a troupe of pantomime favourites. Christopher Biggins stars as the Panto Dame, Su Pollard as the Fairy Godmother, Basil Brush as Prince Charming, and Lesley Joseph as the Wicked Stepmother, all offering their unique insights.
Fans Point to a 'Chaser'
Despite the lack of official hints, speculation has run rampant online, particularly concerning the contestant named Goose A-Laying. On forums like Reddit, fans have dissected the name, linking it to the line "six geese a-laying" from the classic carol The Twelve Days of Christmas.
This connection sparked a theory that the celebrity might be known for being part of a group of six. One viewer directly suggested: "I wonder if it’s someone known for being in a group of 6... a Chaser?" This refers to the quiz experts on ITV's sister show, The Chase.
The theory quickly gained traction, with multiple fans nominating the same star. "I reckon it's a Chaser, maybe Jenny Ryan," one wrote, while another agreed, "Jenny from The Chase! She can sing well!" A third added, "Jenny is the most likely, and weirdly I can see her wearing the Goose outfit."
A Major Shake-Up for Series Seven
The Christmas special is merely an appetiser for a revolutionary new series of The Masked Singer, set to premiere in January. Host Joel Dommett has teased that the upcoming season will feature "the most unmaskings ever," with reports indicating four reveals across the first two episodes alone.
In a world first for the global franchise, bands will compete alongside individual celebrities. The line-up will include a group called No Trout, led by a character named Goldfish, and another named Antarctic Funkeys, fronted by Emperor Penguin. This twist promises to further baffle the panel and viewers at home.
A show source explained: "The franchise's first ever bands are going to blow everyone's minds – but viewers will be left scratching their heads as to whether the band is a big clue or not." The new series will feature a total of twelve disguised celebrities.
The previous series, which concluded in February, was won by stage and screen actress Samantha Barks as Pufferfish, who beat finalists Gregory Porter (Dressed Crab) and Marti Pellow (Wolf).
The Masked Singer Christmas Special airs on Boxing Day at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
