Only Fools and Horses Stars Announce TV Comeback Plans
Gwyneth Strong, renowned for her role as Cassandra in the beloved BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, has hinted at a television reunion with co-star Tessa Peake-Jones. The actress, now 66, disclosed that she is currently drafting a television proposal for a new project featuring both of them, sparking excitement among fans of the iconic series.
Decades-Long Friendship Fuels Creative Collaboration
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Strong emphasized the enduring bond between the cast members, noting that she and Peake-Jones remain "very good friends" more than two decades after the show's final episode aired. She elaborated, "We’re really close. At the moment, I’m writing a television proposal for her and me, so I’ll wake up refreshed from my nap and work on that." While details are scarce, Strong hinted that the show will incorporate elements from their long-standing friendship and shared experiences.
Reflecting on the Show's Legacy and Unseen Footage
This announcement coincides with the release of the U&Gold documentary Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive, which features Strong, Peake-Jones, and Sue Holderness revisiting previously unseen footage. Peake-Jones, who also stars in ITV's Grantchester, shared insights into the production process, revealing that the cast often felt immense pressure to "get it right" during filming. She recounted, "If people had seen us backstage before the show, they'd have seen people pacing up and down the corridors with nerves, including David and Nick [Nicholas Lyndhurst]."
The documentary showcases 66 unseen clips and nearly 100 assets from rushes, with series producer Sean Doherty describing the material as "extraordinary." Sir David Jason, reflecting on the rediscovered moments, stated, "The love for Only Fools has never faded. It's incredible to see how many people still hold it close to their hearts." He added that some scenes were cut originally because they weren't deemed funny enough, but they will now be shared with audiences.
Future Prospects and Fan Anticipation
As Strong and Peake-Jones work on their new television proposal, fans eagerly await further details about this potential comeback. The duo's collaboration highlights the lasting impact of Only Fools and Horses, which continues to resonate with viewers 45 years after its debut. With the documentary airing behind-the-scenes footage and the stars planning fresh content, the legacy of this classic sitcom shows no signs of waning.
