Red Sox Fan's Marriage Proposal at Fenway Park Ends in Awkward Rejection
Red Sox Fan's Proposal Rejected at Fenway Park

A Boston Red Sox fan experienced a moment to forget on Sunday afternoon when his very public marriage proposal went awry, witnessed by the entire crowd at Fenway Park.

The fan, identified only as Douglas, had planned what he expected to be a romantic moment with his girlfriend, Serah, during the team's game against the Houston Astros. After coordinating with the Red Sox pregame, he appeared on the jumbotron, asking Serah to marry him—only for disaster to strike.

In a bizarre twist, the now-viral clip was captured by Linda Henry, wife of billionaire Red Sox owner John Henry. She captioned her Instagram Story: 'Quieter reaction on this one.....'

In the video, Douglas turns to Serah as the screen flashes: 'Serah Linn, will you marry me?' After a brutal pause, Serah, with a stony expression, appears to say 'I don't know,' causing panic to spread across Douglas' face.

Attempting to salvage the awkward moment, Douglas abandons the ring exchange and leans in for a kiss. Serah obliges, and the pair exchange whispers before Douglas points at the jumbotron, reminding her that the world is watching.

It remains unclear how the proposal ended or if the couple will proceed with their nuptials. The Daily Mail is seeking further information.

On social media, users were ruthless with their reactions. One wrote: 'Imagine getting rejected on the big screen then coming home and opening Twitter to this.' Another added: 'Oh nooooooo…. They were definitely not [on] the same page,' while a third said: 'Bad mojo everywhere with this team.'

The Red Sox went on to lose the game 3-1 to the Houston Astros, another blow for Douglas, with the team's record moving to 13-21 for the season. Boston sits at the bottom of the AL East, 10 games behind the New York Yankees, with playoff hopes fading.
