Run Away: Netflix Release Date & Cast for Coben Thriller

Netflix is gearing up to kick off the new year with a heart-pounding new limited series from master storyteller Harlan Coben. The streaming giant has confirmed that Run Away, the latest adaptation of the bestselling author's work, will premiere on Thursday, 1 January.

When Can You Watch Run Away on Netflix?

Subscribers won't have to wait long for this next dose of suspense. The eight-part thriller is scheduled to land on the platform on New Year's Day. Netflix has listed it as a limited series, suggesting the story is designed as a self-contained narrative with no current plans for a second season.

A Stellar British Cast Led by James Nesbitt

True to form, Coben has assembled a formidable roster of British acting talent. Leading the charge is James Nesbitt (Cold Feet, Bloodlands), who takes on the role of Simon Greene, a man whose seemingly perfect life shatters.

He is joined by Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey) as private investigator Elena Ravenscroft, and Alfred Enoch (Harry Potter, How To Get Away With Murder) as Detective Isaac Fagbenle.

The impressive supporting cast includes:

  • Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) as Ingrid Greene.
  • Tracy-Ann Oberman (Friday Night Dinner) as lawyer Jessica Kinberg.
  • Ellie de Lange as Simon's daughter, Paige.

Coben has expressed particular enthusiasm about reuniting with Nesbitt, telling Netflix's Tudum: "Jimmy just has so much range. He's so natural and authentic at all times. He's an empathetic actor in the sense that he feels, and then you feel for him."

What Is The Run Away Plot About?

The series follows Simon Greene (Nesbitt), whose world is torn apart when his daughter Paige suddenly disappears. After six agonising months, he finally tracks her down, only to discover she is living on the streets, trapped in a devastating cycle of drug addiction.

A single, violent act then plunges Simon into a dark and dangerous underworld. As he desperately fights to bring his daughter home, he is forced to confront shocking secrets that threaten to destroy everything he thought he knew about his family.

Coben Promises a Jaw-Dropping Final Twist

In an exclusive discussion, the executive producer hinted that Run Away could be his most suspenseful and emotionally charged drama yet for Netflix.

"I think this is probably the most devastating final twist," Coben revealed. "Literally at the end of the last episode, you'll think you have the answer, you'll think you have the answer and then boom, at the very, very end. There's one that will hopefully make your jaw drop and it will tug on your heartstrings I hope."

He added, "I don't like to choose between them [his dramas] but I really love this one, I can't wait. The early reaction has been incredible and I think once you start it you won't want to stop."

With its compelling premise, top-tier cast, and the promise of a trademark Coben twist, Run Away is poised to be the first must-watch television event of 2026.
