Stranger Things Season 5 Part 2 Trailer Hints at Major Robin Buckley Death
Stranger Things S5 Trailer Sparks Robin Death Theory

The release of the official trailer for Stranger Things Season 5 Part 2 has sent the show's dedicated fanbase into a speculative frenzy, with a pivotal moment pointing towards the tragic demise of a beloved character.

Trailer Moment Sparks Fan Panic

Netflix unveiled the epic preview for the final instalments, setting a premiere date of Christmas Day in the US and Boxing Day in the UK. The trailer shows Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) despondent after a failed rescue and Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) alongside Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) in a desperate escape attempt. However, eagle-eyed viewers have focused on a specific, harrowing scene just over a minute into the video.

In it, Robin Buckley, portrayed by Maya Hawke, is seen in a hospital corridor flanked by two armed military personnel. A Demogorgon then charges directly towards them, with the camera cutting to the monster's point of view as it lunges. The brief but terrifying shot has convinced many that Robin's time is up.

"I Am 100% Sure That's The Sad Death"

Fans quickly took to social media and YouTube to voice their fears. One user, @Kaiiizerrrp, highlighted the timestamp with a crying emoji, while @Obama_Plays pleaded, "Omg Robin please runnn." The theory gained traction as more viewers analysed the clip. @Sham-d3y commented decisively, "FINALLY SOMEONE SAW IT. I AM 100% SURE THAT'S THE SAD DEATH WHICH THE DUFFERS WERE TALKING ABOUT, IT WAS ROBIN ALL ALONG."

This speculation is compounded by the title of episode five, 'Shock Jock'. In Part 1, Robin was shown hosting a radio show for The Squawk, a cover for relaying crucial intel about military operations in the Upside Down to her friends. Her pivotal role this season also included helping Will Byers harness his powers and navigate his feelings, and she shared touching moments about her relationship with Vickie Dunne (Amybeth McNulty).

A Death Foreshadowed?

This is not the first time fans have predicted Robin's fate. Earlier promotional material from Netflix's official Instagram, which featured cast members staring down an unseen threat, notably excluded Robin. Her absence sparked immediate concern, with one fan demanding, "UM HI I BEG YOUR FINEST PARDON WHERE IS MY GIRL ROBIN AT?"

On forums like Reddit, viewers have also pointed to Robin's emotional speech in Volume One as being intensely coded for a character's impending death. One fan, MedievZ, argued the logic behind the choice: "Robin is the perfect character to die and get the maximum emotional impact while fitting into the story nicely and being an unexpected gutpunch."

While other characters like Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) have long been fan favourites for a tragic end—highlighted by his pact with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), "You die, I die"—the trailer evidence is now pointing strongly elsewhere. The trailer also showed Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) recruiting Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) for a final showdown with Vecna.

Regardless of her on-screen fate, Robin Buckley's legacy is secured. A new Stranger Things novel titled 'One Way or Another', by Caitlin Schneiderhan, will focus on Robin and Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) solving a supernatural mystery set two months after the events of Season Four.
