Four Kittens Dumped in Adelaide Library Return Slot in Third Incident
Kittens Dumped in Library Slot, RSPCA Appeals for Help

Security footage has captured a man abandoning four young kittens in the after-hours book return slot of a public library in Adelaide, in what authorities describe as a recurring pattern of neglect.

Chilling Footage Captures the Act

The incident occurred at the Greenacres Library, where CCTV recorded a man depositing the helpless animals into the external return box at around 10pm on 11 January. The four kittens, believed to be approximately six weeks old, were not discovered until a staff member opened the box the following morning, on 12 January.

Miraculously, despite spending the night confined in the metal chute, the kittens were found to be unharmed. They have since been taken into care.

A Disturbing Pattern of Behaviour

This is not an isolated event at the Greenacres Library. According to RSPCA South Australia, this marks the third time that kittens have been callously dumped in the library's after-hours return slot. This repetition suggests the location is being deliberately targeted by an individual unwilling to take responsibility for the animals.

The RSPCA has expressed serious concern over the welfare of animals treated in this manner. Dumping pets, especially very young ones, is not only cruel but also illegal, exposing them to unnecessary risk and suffering.

Public Appeal for Information

RSPCA South Australia is now urgently appealing to the public for help. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the man seen in the security footage to come forward.

Key facts from the appeal include:

  • The incident happened at Greenacres Library on the evening of 11 January.
  • Four six-week-old kittens were left in the book return.
  • This is the third such occurrence at this location.

Authorities hope that by sharing details of this act of animal welfare neglect, they can find the person responsible and prevent further incidents. The community's assistance is seen as vital in ensuring the safety of vulnerable animals and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
