In an emotional Instagram video shared in February, Thomas documented administering his first self-injection of medication, explaining, "It is an autoimmune disease. Basically means my immune system is attacking my own body. It causes a significant amount of pain." He described how symptoms fluctuate daily, sometimes affecting specific areas like fingers or knees, other times spreading throughout his entire body.
"It's swelling, and it's exhausting," Thomas admitted, noting he often masks his discomfort with a smile. "One day you're completely fine, and then the next day you're in that much pain you can barely even get out of bed."
