Adam Thomas Reveals David Haye 'Broke Him' in I'm A Celebrity South Africa

I'm A Celebrity: South Africa contestant Adam Thomas has candidly disclosed that fellow campmate David Haye "broke" him during their intense confrontations on the ITV reality series. The former Emmerdale actor, 37, who suffers from the autoimmune condition psoriatic arthritis, described the experience as one of the most challenging of his life, both physically and emotionally.

Jungle Tensions Escalate Over Bushtucker Trial

The conflict reached a boiling point during Friday's episode when Thomas, feeling unwell and dehydrated, opted out of a Bushtucker Trial. Haye, the ex-boxer known for his controversial remarks, responded harshly, branding Thomas "useless" and criticizing his decision. This incident followed earlier friction, including Haye's comments about reducing Thomas's meal portion after a camp penalty involving smuggled chocolate.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Sunday, 19 April, Thomas reflected on the ordeal, sharing a photo of himself looking downcast on the show. "Not going to lie, this picture breaks my heart," he wrote. "I know on the inside what I was dealing with, and truth be told, I thought it was all my fault. I now know that's not the reality."

Health Struggles Amplify Jungle Pressure

Thomas emphasized that managing his psoriatic arthritis, diagnosed in 2023, significantly impacted his time in the jungle. "Dealing with arthritis really took its toll," he admitted, noting he tried to conceal his pain on screen. The series, filmed in September last year, pushed him to his limits, with Thomas revealing he often didn't recognize himself during the toughest moments.

Addressing his clashes with Haye directly, Thomas expressed regret for not speaking up sooner. "I wish I stood my ground instead of trying to keep the peace," he stated. "I've learned that being kind doesn't mean being weak, and sometimes it takes going through tough moments to find your voice."

Apology and Moving Forward

Despite the tension, Thomas confirmed that Haye has since apologized. "He broke me in there, he pushed me to my limits, and I've told David this and he's apologised and that's that!" he said. "I've moved on now, am not one to hold a grudge." Thomas added that since leaving the jungle, he has processed the events, let go of anger, and chosen peace, proud of himself for not quitting despite the urge.

Support from Co-Stars and Hosts

Thomas received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities. Campmate Scarlett Moffatt commented on his post, praising his kindness, while Ashley Roberts expressed sympathy for his struggles. Even hosts Ant and Dec weighed in on their podcast, I'm A Celebrity... Unpacked, with Ant describing Haye's behavior as "not a nice watch" and Dec noting it had "crossed the line from banter."

Haye, who has sparked controversy throughout the series with remarks about his girlfriend's personality and age-related comments about Beverley Callard, has not publicly responded to Thomas's latest statements. The Independent has reached out to Haye for comment, but no reply has been issued yet.

This revelation sheds light on the intense dynamics within the jungle camp, highlighting how reality TV pressures can exacerbate personal health issues and lead to profound emotional confrontations.
