Dozens of Afghan Soldiers Killed in Intense Border Clashes with Pakistan

Afghan ground forces launched attacks at 16 locations along Pakistan's southwestern border and fired on multiple points in the northwest early on Tuesday, marking the fifth consecutive day of intense clashes between the two nations. The latest fighting resulted in the deaths of 67 Afghan security force members and one Pakistani soldier, according to Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

Pakistan Claims Successful Repulsion of Attacks

Pakistan claimed its forces 'successfully repelled these multiple attacks', with Tarar stating that 27 Afghan forces were killed in Balochistan province and 40 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This escalation follows Afghanistan's retaliatory attacks for Pakistani airstrikes conducted the previous Sunday, with both nations claiming to have inflicted significant losses on the other side.

Escalation and Ceasefire Breakdown

Pakistan has declared an 'open war' against militants, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), operating from Afghan territory, demanding Kabul disarm these groups, a claim Afghanistan denies. This conflict has ended a ceasefire brokered in October, leading to heightened tensions and ongoing military engagements along the border regions.

The situation remains volatile as both countries continue to exchange fire, with no immediate signs of de-escalation. The international community is closely monitoring the developments, urging restraint and dialogue to prevent further loss of life and regional instability.
