Gareth Baty Triumphs as MasterChef: The Professionals Champion
Gareth Baty has been officially crowned the winner of MasterChef: The Professionals series 18, expressing sheer elation after his victory on the BBC One cooking show. The 40-year-old chef, originally from Carlisle, secured the title by dedicating his winning three-course menu to his family and late father, earning high praise from the judges for his emotional and skillful culinary creations.
An Emotional Journey to Victory
In the intense series finale, Baty competed against fellow finalists Luke Emmess and Mark O'Brien, showcasing his gastronomic talents in a bid to become the champion. Living in Whitefield, Greater Manchester, with his wife and children, Baty described the win as "everything" to him, stating it was the best feeling he had ever experienced. He emphasized that cooking from the heart and believing in his food were key lessons learned throughout the competition, hoping this achievement marks just the beginning of his culinary journey.
Judges Praise Baty's Dedicated Dishes
Baty's final menu was hailed by judge Marcus Wareing as an "absolute knockout three-course menu." The starter, inspired by his mother, was a creative take on a prawn cocktail, which judge Monica Galetti praised as a "delicate yet gutsy dish," noting that his mum would be proud. For the main course, dedicated to his father who passed away during Baty's university years, he served a chicken breast roulade wrapped in a chicken and truffle mousse, accompanied by king oyster mushroom, set puree, tarragon mayonnaise, fries, and a madeira sauce. Judge Matt Tebbutt labeled this dish "an absolute winner."
A Sweet Conclusion and Future Aspirations
The dessert, dedicated to Baty's partner's family, featured a twist on the Brandy Alexander cocktail, with layers of milk chocolate and dulce de leche cremeux, topped with a brandy snap, brandy-poached pears, and a ginger and brandy sauce. Reflecting on his experience, Baty called his time on the show an "amazing adventure" that transformed him both personally and professionally, giving him a new path to pursue in his culinary career.
Changes in the Judging Panel
This finale marked Matt Tebbutt's last appearance as a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals, as he had previously announced he was only committed to one series. The 52-year-old replaced Gregg Wallace, who was dismissed following misconduct allegations related to the amateur MasterChef series. The show remains available for viewing on BBC iPlayer, continuing to captivate audiences with its high-stakes culinary battles.
