Zelensky Thanks King Charles for Ukraine Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his gratitude to King Charles for the monarch's “strong words” in support of Ukraine during his recent state visit to the United States. Mr Zelensky conveyed his appreciation during a meeting with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer in Yerevan, Armenia, ahead of the European Political Community (EPC) summit.

King Charles's Address to Congress

King Charles, in his address to the US Congress last week, emphasised the importance of NATO and international backing for Kyiv. The intervention was widely interpreted as a subtle challenge to Donald Trump's perceived waning interest in the conflict. The monarch hailed the “irreplaceable and unbreakable” bond between the United States and the United Kingdom, but also stressed the need for continued support for Ukraine.

Zelensky's Meeting with Starmer

During the same meeting, Mr Zelensky also thanked Sir Keir Starmer for the United Kingdom's sanctions against Russia and its efforts to counter Moscow's “shadow fleet.” The Ukrainian leader described these measures as a “great example” for other allies. Sir Keir Starmer arrived in Armenia on Sunday and is expected to use the EPC summit to advocate for closer ties with the European Union on defence, security, and economic matters.

The EPC summit brings together leaders from across the continent to discuss pressing issues, including the ongoing war in Ukraine. The UK has been a key supporter of Kyiv, providing military aid and imposing sanctions on Russia. King Charles's remarks have been seen as reinforcing the UK's commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
