A victim of a suspected antisemitic stabbing in Golders Green has accused the government of failing to protect the Jewish community, speaking out from his hospital bed. Shilome Rand, 34, and Moshe Ben Baila, 76, were attacked on Wednesday in what police are treating as a hate crime. Both men are now in a stable condition.
Victim's Criticism
Mr Rand, recovering from his injuries, said the government was 'not doing its job' in tackling rising antisemitism. 'We feel unsafe as a community. The authorities need to step up,' he stated. The attack occurred in an area already on edge after recent arson attacks destroyed Jewish community ambulances.
Arrest and Investigation
A 45-year-old Somali-born British national has been arrested. Counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation, and an increased police presence, including temporary stop-and-search powers, has been implemented in Golders Green. Authorities believe the suspect may have been involved in an earlier altercation.
Government Response
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the attack as 'deeply concerning' and pledged to address the root causes of antisemitism. He promised increased security funding for Jewish sites and action against 'malign state actors' that fuel hatred. The government faces mounting pressure to ensure community safety.
