Joseph Duggar Transferred from Arkansas Detention as Florida Molestation Case Proceeds
Joseph Duggar, the 31-year-old father of four and former TLC reality star, has been transferred from a detention center in Arkansas as authorities prepare to extradite him to Florida. He faces serious charges of molesting a nine-year-old girl during a family vacation in Panama City, Florida, back in 2020.
Arrest and Allegations
Duggar was arrested earlier this month in Tontitown, Arkansas, where he resides with his wife and their four children. The arrest affidavit from the Bay County Sheriff's Office in Florida accuses him of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12 years old. According to the document, the alleged victim reported that Duggar touched her inappropriately multiple times during the vacation nearly six years ago.
In a recorded call, Duggar reportedly admitted to "touching the victim over her clothing" and acknowledged that his "intentions were not pure." The girl's father confronted Duggar about the allegations last week, as detailed in the affidavit.
Extradition and Legal Proceedings
Duggar has not been in the custody of the Washington County Sheriff's Office since March 27, according to officials. Initially set for extradition to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, he is not currently listed in their inmate database. However, Washington County prosecutors confirmed that Duggar was transported to Florida on Friday from the Arkansas detention center.
Prosecutors have yet to formally file charges against Duggar in the Florida county, and the agency has refrained from commenting on whether the extradition to the BCSO has been completed. The Daily Mail has reached out to both the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office for further information but has not received an immediate response.
Family Arrests and Background
Two days after Joseph Duggar's arrest, his 27-year-old wife, Kendra, was also taken into custody. Both face four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four charges of second-degree false imprisonment. Authorities emphasize that these charges are separate from Joseph's previous sexual abuse allegations.
Kendra is free on a $1,470 bond, while Joseph remains in custody. In a collect call from jail last Friday, Joseph revealed to Kendra that he was in solitary confinement, describing his conditions as restricted to "an 8-by-10 area" for "23 hours of the day" at the Washington County Detention Facility in Arkansas. He noted, "I've been spending a lot of time reading, uh, reading the Bible, they got me a Bible in here."
A source indicated that Joseph's family has not visited him in jail, with his attorney being his only visitor. Joseph added that he was in a "pretty small area, but I've been able to read a lot actually, and resting some, but I'm not sleeping great through the night."
Family History and Impact
The arrests have sent shockwaves through the Duggar family, which has already been rocked by the crimes of Joseph's older brother, Josh Duggar. Josh was convicted in 2021 of receiving and possessing material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and was sentenced to 12 years and seven months in federal prison. He was also accused of sexually abusing five girls, including his younger sisters, though he never faced charges for those alleged abuses.
Joseph and Kendra's arrests come nearly five years after Josh's conviction, adding another layer of turmoil to the family's public struggles. The case continues to unfold as legal authorities in Florida and Arkansas coordinate the next steps in the prosecution.
