In a deeply disturbing case that has shocked the community, a Wisconsin mother has confessed to murdering her teenage daughter with the stated intention of protecting her from billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, according to prosecutors.
Charges Filed in Brutal Stabbing
Tyiece Oninski, 41, faces a charge of first-degree intentional homicide for the killing of her 14-year-old daughter, Kuren Rein. The tragic incident occurred at their home in the Town of Turtle, with Oninski allegedly calling the Rock County Communications Center non-emergency number on March 20 to report she had killed her daughter and attempted suicide the previous night.
Bizarre Claim About Elon Musk
According to the criminal complaint obtained by WMTV, Oninski told authorities she murdered Rein to protect her from someone else, later specifically identifying that person as Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Prosecutors noted it remains unclear why Oninski believed the tech billionaire posed a threat to her daughter, who was a freshman at Beloit Memorial High School.
When the dispatcher asked if they should send an ambulance for Rein, Oninski allegedly responded, 'She's dead, honey. She needs a hearse.' This chilling exchange was documented in the official complaint.
Gruesome Scene Discovered
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Oninski with multiple injuries including lacerations on her neck and both wrists, plus an apparent stab wound on her temple, as reported by WKOW. Inside the home, they found Rein face down in a pool of blood, deceased from multiple stab wounds.
Investigators noted a knife and sheath were found nearby, and a partial barefoot footprint was discovered inside the residence. Detectives observed that Oninski's left foot appeared to have red staining on the bottom, according to the complaint.
Medical Findings and Legal Proceedings
Oninski was transported to a hospital where medical tests revealed she was positive for benzodiazepines, amphetamines, and THC. She has since been booked at the Rock County Jail and is being held on a $1 million bond, with her next court appearance scheduled for April 14.
If convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, Oninski faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. The community has organized a funeral for Rein on April 3, with her family launching a GoFundMe campaign to help cover expenses.
Family and Community Mourn
The fundraiser statement expressed profound grief: 'Our hearts are shattered as we share the unimaginable loss of a beautiful 14-year-old life taken far too soon. She was loved deeply and will be missed beyond measure. Her life mattered, and she deserves to be honored with dignity and care.'
Megan Oninski, Rein's aunt, described her niece to WMTV as 'kind, intelligent, and maintained such contagious optimism, even in the darkest of times.' She added that this tragedy represents 'the devastating ending to a years-long battle amongst family members and the overworked system put in place to protect our children.'
Neighbor Karen Miller remembered Rein as 'a wonderful young lady' who was a great student with aspirations to join the military and a deep love for animals. 'Very devastating,' Miller said. 'She was just a wonderful, beautiful soul.'
Friends Remember a Vibrant Teen
Aimee Sorensen, whose stepson was friends with Rein, told WKOW that the two teenagers regularly spent time together after school. 'She was always fun to be around,' Sorensen recalled. 'She brought out the best in our son. He can be very quiet and shy, and she was always very laughy and giggly, and just always super friendly and respectful.'
The family's statement concluded with a hopeful message: 'Our hope, coming out of this terrible event for so many, is that it is an unforgettable reminder to stay fighting for change in our society, to keep love and faith alive, and to keep joy in the connections made throughout life. She will be missed by so many.'
