Arsenal Need 7 Points from Last 3 Games to Win Premier League

Manchester City's dramatic 3-3 draw with Everton has handed Arsenal a significant lift in the Premier League title race with just a few games left to play.

Arsenal were handed a huge boost after Manchester City were held to a surprise draw at Everton on Monday evening. Pep Guardiola's side trailed 3-1 at the Hill Dickinson before fighting back to earn a point.

The Gunners, meanwhile, claimed a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday and now sit five points clear of City. Their rivals, however, still have a game in hand against Crystal Palace, which will be played on May 13.

After the match on Merseyside, Guardiola acknowledged how the title is no longer in City's hands heading into the final weeks of the season. "The point is better than no points, but it would have been better to win the game," said Guardiola.

"Many things happened - the difficulty of the opponent, the incredibly aggressive way they play. It was in our hands and in Arsenal's hands, and now it is not in our hands. We have Brentford on Saturday and we continue and we'll see what happens."

After 35 matches, Arsenal are currently on 76 points meaning their maximum points tally is 85. Meanwhile, City have claimed 71 points from 34 games and still have a game in hand, meaning their maximum total is 83 points.

Following the draw with Everton, City will no longer be able to get past 83 points even if they win all of their remaining games. For Arsenal to clinch the title, they require at least seven points from a possible nine in their last three matches, while winning all three would guarantee the title, irrelevant of what City now achieve.

But there could yet be another twist. Arsenal may hold the advantage on goal difference, but it's a narrow one. As it stands, it's +41 compared to City's +37.

Should the two teams finish level on points, the Gunners will be crowned champions, but a four-goal swing is by no means insurmountable, given City will play an extra game. Three days after that home clash with Palace, City are in FA Cup final action against Chelsea at Wembley (May 16).

Then, they travel to Bournemouth on May 19 - meaning they will play three games in the space of six days before the final day of the season - at home to Aston Villa on May 24.

For Arsenal, it's a different picture, with their focus turning to Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid before an away trip to West Ham five days later.

Eight days after that, they host relegated Burnley, then six days later they travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on the final day of the season.

In terms of fixture congestion, Arsenal's schedule is friendlier than City's, who not only have an extra game to play but also have the FA Cup final sitting between their last two league fixtures.
