Arsenal have regained the momentum in the Premier League title race after a commanding 3-0 victory over Fulham at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta's side ended a difficult period where goals had been scarce, with Viktor Gyokeres scoring twice and Bukayo Saka adding another. The win puts Arsenal six points clear of Manchester City with three matches remaining, though City have two games in hand.
Paul Merson's 'Severe Pressure' Warning
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has cautioned that the title race could become tense for the Gunners if City win their outstanding fixtures. Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: 'If Man City win the next two games against Everton and Brentford, there's severe pressure for Arsenal to beat West Ham. That is one hard game. West Ham are fighting for their lives.'
He added: 'Then you don't know what happens on Tuesday night, it might go to extra time. There's so much to go with it.' Despite the warning, Merson still believes Arsenal have the edge due to City's challenging run-in against Everton and Bournemouth.
Ian Wright Proven Right on Gyokeres
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been vindicated after his earlier comments about Viktor Gyokeres. When the Swedish striker arrived for around £64 million last summer, critics questioned his goal-scoring record in Portugal. Wright insisted Arsenal needed a pure goal-scorer to win the league, and Gyokeres has now netted 21 goals this season, including two crucial strikes against Fulham.
Speaking after the match, Wright told Premier League Live: 'People have been saying for many years Arsenal need to get a striker. Then we get the striker and people say he's not good enough. You have to say 21 goals, obviously 12 in the Premier League, says that he's done the job for us.' He added: 'If he only scores against those kind of teams, that's what Arsenal have always needed. They don't have problems scoring against the top six, it's the other teams like the Fulhams and the Wolves we've had problems scoring against. He's come in and solved that problem.'
Arsenal now turn their attention to a Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, before a crucial Premier League trip to West Ham on Sunday.
