Coronation Street Fans Suspect Christina Killed Theo in Murder Week
Corrie Fans Suspect Christina Killed Theo

Coronation Street fans think they have worked out Theo's killer after telling scenes unfolded on the Bank Holiday episode of the world's longest-running TV soap. The scaffolder, played by James Cartwright, was at the centre of a high-profile storyline that saw him abuse his partner Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) over a long period of time.

Murder Week Conclusion

The world's longest-running TV soap has been under countless radical format changes in recent times, the latest of which saw Theo's death the conclusion of a mystery that was teased earlier this year with a flashforward. In a first for the programme, Theo was one of five villains along with Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn), Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown), or Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), and viewers did not know until Friday who would be killed off.

As the latest episode of the programme unfolded on Monday, DS Lisa Swain and DC Kit Green were back on the case, deliberating over who may have killed him as a montage of potential suspects, flashback scenes and Theo's cackle played against the backdrop of dramatic music.

Fan Theories Emerge

Some fans think that Christina is behind the murder. Viewers will know that as Todd's ordeal came to a head, his adoptive daughter Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), best friend Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien), as well as his surrogate father George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) and his partner Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) were on the case to rescue him from everything.

Despite being finally free of the abuse, on scenes played out on Bank Holiday Monday, Todd and the other residents of number eleven were faced with questions from police who wondered if Theo had taken his own life after he was found dead at the bottom of the scaffolding.

Clearly at a loss with the situation, George blurted out: "Look, I don't mean to speak ill of the dead and that, but let's face it, Theo would say anything that could manipulate Todd. That's the sort of bloke he was. It was coercive control, wasn't it? It was, like, mental abuse as well as physical abuse, and..." as a shocked Christina rushed over to comfort him in his outburst. By the end of the episode, pathologist reports confirmed that a blunt force trauma had taken place, rendering the whole thing as, very definitely, a murder case.

As the latest mystery on the programme began to unravel, some fans think that the murderer may be an "unlikely" one but think they have worked out how it all happened in the first place, with some viewers believing that it could be Christina. Kicking off the speculation, one fan wrote on Reddit: "When the scene opened, George was on the phone leaving Todd a voicemail. Then he sits his phone down with his right hand. Christina's phone then buzzed, and she picked it up a lot further back from George's, and then kept it behind her back as she went to answer the landline. George's jumper is too obviously a red herring at this stage. There was something on Christina's phone she kept behind her back."

Another agreed with the theory as they said: "I would've thought that Christina would be the most unlikely person to murder Theo. Since she got together with George, she's been softened into a salt-of-the-earth mothering type, frankly what Corrie is missing. But then I thought about it and when she was first introduced she was really rather ruthless. That entire farce where she and Daisy conned Jenny proved that she can be pretty ruthless, so maybe she has it in her?" A third simply wrote: "Could Christina have had an involvement with Theo's demise?"

Alternative Suspects

However, others think that the killer could be someone who was not at all in the episode and pointed the finger of blame towards Theo's ex-wife Danielle. Played by former Emmerdale actress Natalie Anderson, the character first appeared when it emerged that Theo had been having an affair with Todd but she has not been seen a great deal since their swift divorce.

One fan wrote on X: "Tbh I'd love a plot twist and Danielle being the one who killed Theo," whilst another said: "Could Danielle Theo's wife have killed him," whilst a third wrote: "What if Danielle and the kids were the shocking twist and she had her own photos/police report she never filed?"

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
