Former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge found himself in an awkward moment during Sky Sports' coverage of the Manchester United vs Liverpool match, as his words were misheard by Roy Keane and presenter Dave Jones.
The Misunderstanding
While discussing the role of Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens in Liverpool's equalising goal, Sturridge commented that the goalkeeper 'shifts it'. However, Keane and Jones misheard a similar-sounding expletive, leading to suppressed smiles and an exasperated Sturridge responding, 'Come on, guys.'
Analysis of the Goal
The incident occurred as Cody Gakpo capitalised on Lammens' poor pass to bring Liverpool level, before Kobbie Mainoo scored the winner for United. Keane, while not overly critical of Lammens, advised: 'Honestly, just go long. What's the benefit of making that pass? It's too risky. What defines the players is their decision. The goalkeeper has been brilliant, let's not be too harsh on him, but when you're under pressure and see Liverpool pressing, just miss them out.'
Match Overview
United had taken a 2-0 lead through Matheus Cunha and a controversial Benjamin Sesko goal. Dominik Szoboszlai pulled one back in the 47th minute, and Gakpo equalised after Lammens' error. Mainoo's stunning strike secured the win for United.
Manager's Reaction
United boss Michael Carrick praised his team's resilience: 'We have scored a lot of goals. We have scored in pretty much every game. The big fault of ours, if anything, is the out-of-possession work and being hard to play against. We tried to put our strengths into the game. We started the game brilliant. I am just as pleased at the way we finished the game, after two setbacks quickly, it could've knocked us but the character and belief the boys showed was really good. Mistakes happen.'
